Archive Teams
We often create agile teams to work on a specific project. Once the project is completed we would like to archive the team in order not to loose the content. Currently we just remove them from our favorites which means that the more list keeps growing. A function to archive a team would be appreciated.

We are a post-secondary school and have begun using Teams for our classes. We are required, however, to retain copies of student work for a period of time. However, we can't create a new team for the same class with the same name without deleting the old version of the class. It would be very helpful to be able to archive a old class Team and create a new one with the same name.

Very glad to hear! Teams is great and easy to handle for everyone in our company. Due to this, one Team/Channel was created after the other, and now it is kind of chaotic. And - so far - no chance to bring it in order other to delete. Also: Merging and moving channels would be very helpful. I 100% agree with the need for an archive function. This was one of the first questions that came up when we started looking to use Teams. Why didn't Microsoft think of this? We want to be able to have teams work on a project until completion and then archive the work done. Now we will start teams, but have to wait to see what funtion is available when we want to archive and in the worst case, it will be a manual process of trying to capture the data and moving it to Sharepoint files. Hopefully Microsoft has a solution by then, but the lack of it now is'n't very promising.

Absolutely - Archiving the data within Teams is indeed necessary, otherwise, increase in manual work to move data into a permanently archiving system would take place.
If Team won't be able to archive, at least a functionality for the data to move automatically to company archiving system (such as SharePoint) will be required.
Failing all the above, I see a strong justification for not using Team. -

This is a critical feature. Please make available ASAP.
We have channels that re-occur with regularity. We need to be able to have them visible for a season, then either move or hide them for a time. Them have them re-appear as a visible channel.

It would be great if Team Owners could archive channels, preserving files and chats while removing them from general view. The more we use Teams for projects, the greater our need for this becomes.

I agree, it would fantastic to have the ability to archive a team or frankly even to be able to archive a channel in a team. As an example we have a management team. We create channels related to a topic or task or project that we may be working on. It would be great to be able to archive that channel when we are done with it.

I agree with this. Working in a projects organisation we have created a lot of teams and the only way I can see the important Teams from the mass of old teams I have acquired is to remove them from my favourites. This is going to become unmanageable for all the organisation at some point. There has to be away of archiving/disabling a team.

Can you archive channels? I can see if we use this tool for a year or so some our managers could have hundreds of channels and be following 20 to 30 of them. How best to manage that?

This is a no brainer - was just on a call with our team. We are looking at using Teams and EVERYONE asked right away, how do you move a channel when it's no longer needed? otherwise you will end up with quite the mess.....

I am part of a very dynamic company. We have projects come and go very quickly sometimes. We would like to "Archive" the Team (project) just in case we need to go back and review it later. But we want to move it out of the active list as we would end up with hundreds of teams without an Archive function.

This is an absolute must to have for us. We also use it for projects and major incident and once the project is done or incident is resolved, we need the channel hidden or archived. Otherwise there will be a long list of channels that are not active.

This is a top priority for us. We also have a client service model with LOTS of channels per client-based Team. We currently use SharePoint sites and can archive those easily. We need the ability to hide/archive channels.

When a team has finished work the only options you have is to leave the team live or delete the whole team.
It would be a great improvement if a team could just be set to inactive (so not visible for the users) When a team is needed later on, you should be able to make the team folder active again

I think an archive function or "folder" would be very much appreciated. Team is about getting the work done efficiently, we simply want to archive teams that are no relevant any more, to facilitate managing work that is current. Although we don't want to delete old teams content, it should still be searchable because it can be useful.

You could always just leave the team? Just make sure they don’t get deleted. And just get added back if you need to reference it. Also deleting is fine because you can pull data back via Conpliance if you had to. I also think they have already said they are also adding a file export soon.

Yes it would be nice to not have to delete a channel - or at least to have the option to print the chat to pdf and have it stored in the files.

I would like to create a Team that supports one client. I'd like to then create a channel for each project for that client. Members of teams can hide/show teams by keeping or removing the team from favorites. We have no way to hide/show channels. Once a project is completed, I would like to be able to hide or archive a channel. I want the information available for the Support team who takes over with whatever was output to the client that the Services team no longer works on. Otherwise I would like to be able to just archive the channel.
I see that I could delete a channel and any files would still be available. I don't see how I would be able to maintain any conversation history - but that would be important if it's related to the project that I am archiving also.
