Copy & Paste is tempermental
Users reporting multiple copy/paste issues for text:
1. Can't paste multi-messages. Often, only the first line pastes, the rest disappear. As one user puts it: "On the Windows 10 desktop client it is nearly impossible to copy multiple messages from the chat history. A fraction of a second after letting go of the mouse, the highlight collapses down to a single message."
2. Can't paste in general: "Copy & Paste is tempermental, when i try to paste text in from other sources it simply doesn't paste, but then if I only copy a few (3-6) words then it does. It means I can't do something as simple as pasting in a paragraph from an email, which I can definitely do in Skype for Business."
3. Can't copy/paste from Skype for Business.
4. When using an alternate theme like dark theme, copying messages out of Teams brings its background with it, meaning if you paste it somewhere else it has that dark gray background.
When copying something into teams, it preserves its original font color on top of the dark background, causing problems with visibility. If you are going to allow palette swapping themes, please add appropriate measures for text copied out of or into the app.
Feature request is still being worked upon.
Paste from Excel too OneNote wastes hours of my time every week. I have all of the column widths and such looking perfect in Excel, copy and paste them with keep source formatting and I have to do it all over again. Why not use a picture or use OneNote's insert Excel? Because one of the columns has embedded links and they don't work unless I cut and paste. Unfortunately, this is what I've come to expect from MS products, they get you 90% there and then drop you into a morass of online forums and workarounds not to mention the insipid KB articles written with tantalizing titles and containing not much more than a topical treatment of the issue and a link to some general information.
Should be able to copy and paste message threads from Teams into email easily.

@Warren. I'm going to try to stay out of the flame war here, but this is a real problem in production. Teams is inconsistent at best when it comes to pasting content into a chat. I often see this when trying to paste an image that I've grabbed with SnagIt and I'm trying to show a user how to do something. I need to save as a file and attach it instead of just dropping it in-line to the chat. I hope that helps narrow the use case.
Sometimes it looks like an image was added to the chat, but comes up as a blank square to me... in those cases the other user can sometimes see the message, and then it comes up several minutes later on my side. Scenario here is it appears to paste into the chat normally, but after sending the message the behavior mentioned occurs.
Everyone Loves this tools, but these are the kinds of annoyances that will erode confidence over time. Thanks for all you guys do!
When I copy from excel TO ANOTHER PROGRAM such as outlook, word, etc. I can paste a picture or or paste keep text only. I am not copying as a picture. It is no longer letting me keep source formatting or use destination formatting or do the same with links. When I click any paste alternative other than paste as picture or keep text only nothing shows up. This problem will destroy my productivity. I have been reading forums and suggestions. Thus far none of them have resolved the fact that I can no longer paste and use destination styles.
The only other new copy related problem, I noticed recently WITHIN excel is that it became temperamental when I cut and insert cut cells. I am also a heavy user of this. I can conclusively say that the problem is not because I am in the wrong column or cell when I click to insert copied cells. So that recommendation will not apply to my situation. The difference between the paste scenario above and this on is that I can eventually paste the cut cells ok.
Resolution to the inability to paste with destination formatting is appreciated. It is a biggie in my world.

Please do not make the mistake of thinking that you corrected this in production! You should try copying an image from Microsoft Edge and pasting it into Teams! It almost never works, but does work if you copy from edge, paste into paint, copy from paint and then paste into Teams. Something is wonky with the Edge-->Teams image pasting.

Thanks for the update, Warren. I hope one of the approaches the engineers are considering is simply pasting *less* metadata.
99% of the time I don't need to retain fonts/colors/backgrounds or exact spacing. I just need to carry over the fact that some words were bold, underline, or bulleted (and even then, please just use Team's default bullet alignment.) In other words, **don't take the source formatting too seriously.**
MS Word does a great job of this in "merge formatting" mode.

The issue is not that users are unable to copy from other sources into Teams, that works fine. It is just nearly impossible to copy text FROM TEAMS into another teams chat or any other source. You have to be extremely precise to copy just one line of text, and multiple messages are impossible to copy.

ETA on copy and paste feature fix/update in Teams?
Not being able to paste into a text window is quite unique. Why remove this normal option that Skype used to provide? Why would this obviously necessary feature even need a vote?
I cannot tell you how frustrating it is to not be able to paste text into PowerPoint. The only way I have found to paste is to first paste text into a plain text document then copy it and paste into PPT. This is ridiculous. How can such an elementary function continue to fail?

Feature request? Isn't this a bug?
Used to be able to copy/paste 100s/1000s of lines with skype, now teams barely handles 100-200 lines of pasting
I use OneNote in the field to create reports, For some reason you can’t save OneNote docs as a Word document. So I Am forced to copy my OneNote report then paste it in Word. The problem I run into is then the pictures are much darker in Word, which now I have to edit each picture to change the light and the color so that it can be seen they way it was in my original report on my OneNote. This takes a great deal of time. Is there a remedy? And why can’t OneNote just save it as a word document to begin with and not change my photos?

I am in the middle of migrating companies and have countless skype chats/meetings daily! This is the most ridiculous unbelievable thing - how can Microsoft not allow or figure out how to copy from skype and paste into onenote, excel, word, notepad, etc.. Users are forced to spend un-godly amounts of money for products that just plain don't work on the simplest of tasks. As mentioned - basic functionality that is essential to have no matter sales, tech, hr, etc.. Seriously over Microsoft products not working day-in-out!
I need to be able to copy a full swath of a conversation (attachments, pictures and all) from one conversation to another, or to a document.
I can do only one reply at a time. This is inacceptable.

Maybe I missed it, but I don't see anything about copying or "S4B" in the convergence summary link that was shared by Warren yesterday. Is that "Teams-SfB 1:1 Chat Interop"? If so, that's in the "available today" column.

I did a little more testing on Copying images from desktop teams. I see failures when trying to copy images from a chat with one person on both Mac and Windows. I have successful copies from some Chats and some Channel conversations, including images that were added by the person where I have failures. The failed-to-copy images copy correctly from online Teams.

Copy Image from a chat conversation doesn't work in Teams Desktop on either Windows or Mac (latest versions as of 02/22/2018). If you right click for the context menu, it shows a "Copy Image" button. If you click the button, it seems like something is added to the clipboard, but it's not a well-formed image as I can't paste it into Teams, Word, OneNote, Evernote, etc.
Copy Image works fine in the Online Version of Teams (I only tested under Chrome on the Mac)

There is one way to copy multiple messages in Teams that OFTEN works.
1 Select multiple messages with left mouse button.
2 While still holding left mouse button down, click right button
3 The messages at this point should be still selected and the context menu should appear. If it didn't happen, start again from p.1.
4. While still holding left mouse button down, click Copy from the context menu with the Right mouse button.
