Copy & Paste is tempermental
Users reporting multiple copy/paste issues for text:
Can't paste multi-messages. Often, only the first line pastes, the rest disappear. As one user puts it: "On the Windows 10 desktop client it is nearly impossible to copy multiple messages from the chat history. A fraction of a second after letting go of the mouse, the highlight collapses down to a single message."
Can't paste in general: "Copy & Paste is tempermental, when i try to paste text in from other sources it simply doesn't paste, but then if I only copy a few (3-6) words then it does. It means I can't do something as simple as pasting in a paragraph from an email, which I can definitely do in Skype for Business."
Can't copy/paste from Skype for Business.
When using an alternate theme like dark theme, copying messages out of Teams brings its background with it, meaning if you paste it somewhere else it has that dark gray background.
When copying something into teams, it preserves its original font color on top of the dark background, causing problems with visibility. If you are going to allow palette swapping themes, please add appropriate measures for text copied out of or into the app.

Feature request is still being worked upon.

This is being worked on since 2018? Can you please provide an update?

I am now experiencing problems with the cut and paste options (Control + C, Control +V) on Microsoft . As soon as I press the control key the text automatically reduces to 30% of size. How do I fix the problem. I do all updates automatically as recommended by Microsoft.

Hmmm @Warren Working on it since Sep 9 2018 is a long time. This is such a needed feature. manually having to select a few messages paste, select some more, paste and so on and hoping to get the ones you want... I never had issues like this with ICQ, AIM, Yahoo Messenger, google hangouts, MSN Messenger or Skype before all of this modern UI rewrite nonsense. It's such basic functionality it needs to just be there from the start, fix this already.

I'd like to add an additional tempermental thing that drives me crazy - if I try to select only a part of a message it still tries to copy the whole thing anyway! Makes it difficult to copy fileshare paths, email addresses, etc. as I have to paste it into a text editor that lets me copy only a part of the message.

I reapplied the extension for Skype that was lost due to outlook email update. Then made sure that background to chipboard history was off, then double check in Skype settings to make sure that extension was reapplied there also. This appears to have worked. Though when I copy and paste I use curl/alt/print screen buttons to screen shot & paste in chat that way. I am so lazy lol. Saves time

Im having this same issue in 2020. Weird to pay $800 for a tablet and cut and paste is an issue. Works perfect on my cheap kindle.

This feature is critical to using ms teams for support. Often i create code on my desktop and have to paste in to and unattended control session. TO paste it into chat requires the host to paste it into the session. effectively doubling the work.

For some reason i always seem to copy the name of the person too. Ctrl-c a selection, but the moment i let my mouse go it selects more. Or i think its correct and it pastes more then i wanted.
So now i just do my selection with the mouse, and before i let go of the mouse click i do ctrl-c, then let go of the button. That seems to work but every now and then i fall for it again. Also since its random too.. -

We would also like Copy & Paste to be working properly from Chats in Teams.
We've found the following issues:
* Currently, I'm not able to select with the mouse loads of messages from a single chat and copy them into the clipboard. When I paste it, I get nothing. The only way is to select the first message and then instead of using the mouse use Shift and Cursor Down until it does not go further down anymore (usually if won't to right to the end if the chat, but stops somewhere in-between). Next copy and paste this bit of text and then do the same with the next message after the selection stopped. Continue until you've selected the whole chat (or everything you want). That's a pain. For long chats, I have to do this three or four times. Why can I not select everything with the mouse and use Copy & Paste?
* The next issue is that all formatting is lost, even when pasting into WordPad or Word. This means if there are quotes or code blocks in the chat, when pasting this information is lost. -

Is this still being worked on MS Teams developers? To be perhaps a little clearer about the problem, you can't easily copy a convo in MS Teams, particularly longer ones.
Highlighting is the the first bit of friction. You try and start at the beginning and select downward and the app loses its way somehow. So you have to do it in chunks which is very hard when the UI doesn't help you keep track in any way and the convo was a long one.
Then, when you go to Ctrl+C to copy, you don't seem to get what you thought you were going to get upon using Ctrl+V. So only part of it pastes.
HUGE frustration.
Use case for all of this: often we rely on MS Teams to have real-time, written convos about important stuff re a project. But we are managing the actual project somewhere else (Smartsheet for us). I want to paste that convo into Smartsheet so my project reflects the convo details and I leave myself some breadcrumbs about where I left off on that, etc.
Otherwise I have to go hunting through any of 3-4 channels, if you will, (email, MS Teams, texts, etc.) to remind myself where I was last re that task.
Please, MS Teams, I beseech thee--for the sanity of your users: FIX THIS!
Thanks in advance.

I cannot see anything I have cut and pasted into Teams, although the recipient can. Have to click on the image icon which opens a pop-up - seems very pointless compared to Slack's simple image view

Copy and paste from word, excel and OneNote don't paste into teams barely at all! If team is going to be a serious platform for business this is a must! We have to use clipper for most things we don't want format changed...

Fix this please. Copy pasting is such a chore. Formats change, goes all over the place.

There still seems to be a limit on this, whether using a mouse to try to select or selecting an individual bubble and trying to select multiple chat bubbles using shift+up arrow or shift+down arrow, I could not get Teams to allow me to select and copy/paste more than 10 chat bubbles maximum into a different location.
