Search results should show the full thread
Searching for something works (mostly), however if the thing you're search for is sufficiently far back in time, then it's nigh impossible to actually get results back. Clicking the message says "go to chat to see the rest", but clicking on that does nothing but take you back to the chat at the current time, rather than the target message. If you bookmark the message and try to get at the location in chat via that, then the client just lags and eventually crashes. (while chewing up 100% CPU) Tried the desktop client (developer preview), web client Chrome, web client Edge, all won't work for really big chats. It seems like it's trying to load the entirety of the chat conversation between now and the point in time that the message happened and then also trying to render and scroll up for that. This is crazy inefficient. It should load a few screens before that chat message, a few after, and then redraw. (so that total effort is nearly 0 rather than "10,000 lines of chats")
The team is currently working on this. I will let you know when I have more updates.
Would really love to be able to search for a string and have Teams return more than just that string as a result. You've decided to replace Skype for Business with Teams, so maybe Teams should try to be at least as good as what it's replacing. Currently, Teams is the Windows Vista of collaboration applications.
Is there an ETA on this? This is a pretty basic feature that virtually all chat platforms have from the get-go. Considering this is a solution designed business use, we don't have the ability to just use a different platform where this functionality exists. We have no option but to use a product that frequently falls flat-- both in terms of existing functionality and lack thereof. Please make this a priority. It's been a request for a very long time. :(
just tried to search for some text- having been told all messages are searchable when this was installed....
but it cannt find it. what on earth is wrong with this stupid app!
unfortunately we are required to use teams at work, the search feature is worse than bad and just about unusable. we have thousands of users and searching on just about any key word brings up millions of useless hits - filtering by user or a group of users is totally useless and impractical. there's so much wasted time and lost information in the system ---- so bad ---- for goodness sake microsoft --- fix this
Completely worthless. I'm searching for a word in a chat I just had and it doesn't anything.
This is the reason I left Teams. I don’t understand what they were thinking. Worst search function I’ve ever seen in any app.
That and the lack of a reply function like in whatsapp
Search in Teams still sucks!
Want to have this on the roadmap!
Want to be able to search in all content in teams - avoiding having to search in sharepoint that gives a complete different user experience!

All I want is to find every conversation with the text "hello world!" What am I missing?

This should be voted more, and should already be done. Lack of context is useless. We search for a particular topic, and usually the important information is a few messages before or after that found message.
+1. If there is no context, why would I search this sting in the first place.
Why in the world can I all of a sudden not get into to TEAMS? I was gone for a short time, but my computer never changed. Now I'm locked out, it won't accept a new password, the form just SITS THERE LIKE A STUMP after inputting the code to prove I'm not a non-human. I hate it, but I have to get in somehow - HELP!

I know a string I used during a convo several months ago, I search that string and I get that ONE message... but what I want to see is the rest of the convo above and below that string. Search should take you to the point in time of that convo... you know... a feature Slack has had for YEARS and your products are built on the EXACT same platform. Microsoft gets worse each and every day. Good luck with the impending layoffs since you can't even come close to your competition!!!
"...there is no point and it makes me want to never use Teams again." i completely agree. its astounding how useless search is.

+1 to this. Finding one specific message is rarely the goal, but rather finding the messages surrounding your search term. I don't want to scroll through a year of conversations to find something.

I need a simple "ctrl+f" search in current chat screen. Any program have this feature, since Notepad until Google Chrome!

This is required! The current search is useless as is. I hate not being able to find things unless I know EXACTLY what I'm looking for, because if the person sent multiple messages in a row and I only remember part of one, I'm toast.

Microsoft, Teams will need more work to be better. A welcome item is you can pin a person to person conversations. But you cannot pin group messages to look into later on. That is a staple for my job. You need to make this happen.
+1 for this.
Will need to stick to slack for the time being, search is useless
