Incorrect status in teams
We have noticed that our Teams statuses are consistently incorrect. Even when some team members are active in Teams they are shown as "away" or "offline". For example, although I can see that my status is "active", my colleagues see my status as "offline".
Can you please fix this bug?
Hi — My apologies for the delay in updating this item. We rolled out a fix a year ago for a specific issue of status changing to away in Teams when you were still active on the device. We thought this had fixed the “incorrect status” issue. From comments below, it sounds like people are still seeing issues.
If you are still having issues, it would be super helpful if you can capture logs by typing Ctrl + Shift + Alt + 1, and send the file from your downloads folder along with device info and detailed repro steps to firstname.lastname@example.org.

Let's be honest here, the status in teams is just nuts. It bares no relation to reality whatsoever. Please go back to drawing board and start again.
Having moved from Skype for business, I expect and my colleagues expect the status to be my status. From Teams help: “Note that Teams will automatically set your status from Available to Away when the Teams app is in the background.”
No, No, No. That is madness, of course the app is in the background most of the day; we're all doing work.
I started getting the same issue too:- Unless I am actively using Teams (typing or clicking), I am shown as away or offline.
This is unacceptable. It's now July 3rd 2020 and Microsoft still can't get the online status fixed. Teams is shit compare to skype. I can't understand why Microsoft is pushing everyone to a buggy piece of crap and can never get it fixed. Some teams members are showing as offline when they are online and offline when they are actually on. I can't imagine if some people actually get fired of it -- it can be part of the reason and your manager may never tell you and won't know the truth until you are already fired. Microsoft Teams and Outlook 365 are the 2 of the most annoying and buggy apps exist on the market today!
Someone will get fired due to this because they always appear offline to their managers.

I am having the same issue where my status changes to Offline even though I am actively working
on my device (laptop in this case).
Similar issue...in reverse from most. My calendar shows me as out of office, but Teams shows me as available so I keep getting pinged and invited to calls/meetings.
This is still happening, many users from my company experience this every now and then. 3 years with the same issue, Microsoft please stop releasing additions to Teams and fix the basic stuff like this.
I have noticed this issue where while I am online and available (working on another file) Teams is setting my status as Away since a very long time, which is incorrect. So I need to explain to colleagues that I am not away but available and working. Not a great user experience
Same issue, keeps showing me away for my colleagues when I'm actively using my device but not actively messaging people in the Teams window. Skype didn't have this issue.
Kindly fix this.
Seeing same issue. If I am working on a different application and have the Teams app minimized, the status changes to Away or Offline. Only when I maximize does it automatically change to Available. Seriously guys, this is basic stuff that should be working seamlessly in a messaging app. Tried to view the logs via Right Click -> Get Logs and its full of garbage. I would uninstall this **** if it wasn't mandated by my workplace.
Similar thread/problem as the other one's listed this week. Additionally, colleagues seeing my status as 'black X' instead of 'red dot' or 'yellow away'. All along, I'm available, showing available with green arrow as I look at my own status. Just started this week.
I was supposed to get instructions on how to fix the same issue most of you are reporting here. One of the MS Teams admins sent me to this forum to get instructions on how to solve this issue. However, from I am reading, it looks like there is any yet... so frustrating!
Recently started to have the same issue; if Teams is minimized even though I am actively working on another application; Teams goes into an Away status.
This wasn't an issue for me until a few weeks ago. Now I can be actively using my computer, look away for a moment, and be shown as away. Before, my computer would have to be inactive at least for a few minutes- now I go "away" randomly. I have to open the actual teams app and wait a moment to go back to green. Super frustrating.
Yep, incredibly frustrating. Unless I am actively using Teams (typing or clicking), I am shown as away or offline. My boss tried to call me through Teams the other day and couldn't because I was shown as Offline, even though I was on my computer, using Outlook and Chrome at that very moment.
Status shows away until I open Teams. It should only away when I'm AFK.

One of my team member status was available so i pinged him, but he was saying that he is in other call ... when he replied to me, his status was updated to in call , this is causing bad impression on others
I wonder if it is to do with how the app is accessed. All of my team bar one have the app on their computer and it works correctly (as long as Teams is open - otherwise "away"). One has a virtual desktop and accesses Teams app via web. Although the browser remains open when they are working on other software/PC, it registers as away, until they actively access the browser tabs to check an incoming email or send or access the teams app online. When they close the browser they are registered as offline. This seems to be the issue. The web version can't register the keystrokes/mouse activity on the PC or at least, it doesn't reflect that to the rest of the team who do not have virtual desktops and have the app actually on the PC. Does this register as a possibility in any of your examples? Does this possible explanation help?

My status at startup sets to 'Busy' right away and I have to update it every time (if I remember). Happens even if my calendar is empty for the day so it can't be using that as a gauge. It also doesn't change to 'In a meeting' if there is a meeting in the calendar.
Still seems like a problem. I'm seeing it with users at my company as well.
