Incorrect status in teams
We have noticed that our Teams statuses are consistently incorrect. Even when some team members are active in Teams they are shown as "away" or "offline". For example, although I can see that my status is "active", my colleagues see my status as "offline".
Can you please fix this bug?
Hi — My apologies for the delay in updating this item. We rolled out a fix a year ago for a specific issue of status changing to away in Teams when you were still active on the device. We thought this had fixed the “incorrect status” issue. From comments below, it sounds like people are still seeing issues.
If you are still having issues, it would be super helpful if you can capture logs by typing Ctrl + Shift + Alt + 1, and send the file from your downloads folder along with device info and detailed repro steps to email@example.com.
We are still having the same issue.
I have a fellow 365 colleague that is consistently showing as on a call, although if i change to another channel or to his Team site he is showing as available. Also shows a 9 against his Team site, although when I switch to his Team there are no new messages.
I WANT my status to stay as 'Away' when I set it to 'Away'. I don't want it to change to 'Available' just because I happen to be using my computer

Half the time I attempt to change my status, it doesn't work, and then if I click on Teams to check messages while I am set to "away," "busy," or "do not disturb," Teams will automatically change my status to "available."
I would like to be able to check my messages while in a meeting without changing to Available every time.
It makes me crazy, I too work remotly and it is constantly showing away. when i want to use dnd it doesn't always take effect, then i get interrupted by teams. please fix.
We have noticed that when the user is offline, the status is shown as
"Unknown". Please update if the convergence is completed.
I 100% agree with this post. I am constantly showing "Away". I work remote several times in a week and do not want to give the impression that I am taking a nap or truly away from my computer.
Same problem here. Skype and Slack have their status notifications on point. Teams has some cool features but right now this one needs some work
I have the same issue and so is the rest of my teams of more then 35 members. Since we installed teams the status is not working correctly and is consistently wrong
My status is never accurate. Right now I'm typing this out and shown as away. If i set my status to available it doesn't change. If I set my status to busy it will change and then I can change my status back to available.
Since Teams isn't able to accurately report my status add preferences/configs so that I can turn this off and set my status manually.

It's happening to us as well. We're trying to switch from Skype to Teams, but we have a company policy to be online at all times during business hours, and the inaccurate indicators are causing a lot of problems for remote workers who have no way of knowing if someone is actually at their desk or not.
it's happening for me... I would like to have it work like S4B and detect when I'm at my computer or on a call. this is the biggest complaint my team has...
Still happening for me as well

We are still hoping for a fix in a near future :)

No admin response since August... This is such a fundamental feature of the software I cant understand why it is yet to be fixed, I will not migrate from SFB until this issue is fixed.

Status seems to be random at best. I've noticed the status remain on Away even though I am moving my mouse and active. The icons are also difficult to interpret as to what the status of a user actually is. Skype had the status down to a science and it worked perfectly in every way. Take a note from that and replicate it in Teams. Why re-invent the wheel when it worked so well??
How does Teams detect status? As our group tries to move to Teams, this issue is making it nearly unusable.
Same here, it is extremely annoying to keep asking - is so and so in the office today, because we would show one person as Available and another as Away - the Away is just because they have lost focus from the Teams App...., but still working on their computer. Absolutely ridiculous, whoever thought that this would be a good idea should be sent to a really warm place.
Just dropping in to say that this issue affects me as well and is preventing me from recommending Teams to my organisation. Status should NOT show as "Away" when I'm working at my computer, just because I haven't opened the Teams app in a while.
