Incorrect status in teams
We have noticed that our Teams statuses are consistently incorrect. Even when some team members are active in Teams they are shown as "away" or "offline". For example, although I can see that my status is "active", my colleagues see my status as "offline".
Can you please fix this bug?
Hi — My apologies for the delay in updating this item. We rolled out a fix a year ago for a specific issue of status changing to away in Teams when you were still active on the device. We thought this had fixed the “incorrect status” issue. From comments below, it sounds like people are still seeing issues.
If you are still having issues, it would be super helpful if you can capture logs by typing Ctrl + Shift + Alt + 1, and send the file from your downloads folder along with device info and detailed repro steps to email@example.com.
Just another user stop by to say this is 100% NOT fixed. It has and continues to be an issue. I absolutely HATE using teams. I've watched the away status be triggered after TWO MINUTES, not update when I start using the PC again (keeps me as away when using the PC), and probably the worst of all of these set me as away when actively running macros, sending emails, or scheduling appointments in OTHER MICROSOFT PROGRAMS.
TRASH software is all it is. People are remote working more than ever and their jobs are ON THE LINE and our active status is what our managers are using to judge our activity. FIX YOUR TRASH SOFTWARE MICROSOFT!
Still an issue, phone and desktop presence doesnt sync.
Still issue,@alex why is no one updating this uservoice?
Still an issue.
Same issue, 3 years later. I'll send that error file to the address given
On a daily basis team members show as available when they are not. I close Teams and reopen and they still show Available.

I am working as an End user support admin and hearing the status issue from many of our users. Showing status as online when logged out from PC, how it is possible? It is making wrong impact when others observing the status and not getting any response.
Please help to fix it.
I'm OK with it showing me away if I don't use the PC for 5 minutes, and that mostly works.
The problem is when I then start using the PC again, Teams doesn't notice that I'm back and leaves the status as Away, until you manually go into Teams and set it back to Available again.
If you can detect that I'm not using the mouse/kbd for 5 minutes it shouldn't be hard to notice when I do start using them again.
We are still facing the same issue. I have sent logs to the email id.
I don't get it.
Teams seems just bad in several ways that are deal breakers for individual users.
I run it because I'm forced to run it.
I.T. departments force it on us because they perceive it to be a cheap solution, but it seems like all of the issues people have with it would make it's TCO high.
Why are people using it? There are good alternatives. I'm not going to mention them here because my point is not to promote any one product, it's to call out the enduringly poor response to user input by Microsoft where Teams is concerned. By "poor response" I don't mean anything about how information is communicated here, I mean specifically and only whether things actually seem to get fixed.
Deployed bug fixes are the sentences in the only language I want to hear spoken when I have an issue.
There are other issues like this one that go to usability:
poor control over notifications (either too many pop-ups or not enough information)
poor UI design (the little dot on the system tray icon shouldn't be showing me *my* status)
poor UI design again (low information density, no control of basics like the font or at least
size of text, no real layout controls, and yet there's the "all-important"
dark mode which somehow was prioritized)
oh heck, just google some of the things you don't like about Teams and several will lead back
to some forum like this one and you'll discover it's been reported, known, and not
fixed for months or years.
Most of the really bad problems dealing with user interaction and usability go back *years* and there's still no fix because someone has the dev. team noodling around with larger-scale maneuvers, which I now believe reflects confidence that all of the real pain points can be totally ignored because people are forced to use this thing whether they like it or not.
I bet it's not the fault of the dev. team, it's not the fault of their immediate leadership, and it's not the fault of the people monitoring this forum. I bet it's product management or someone just above that level. It has that "smell" to it.
Go ahead, prove me wrong about it all: actually fix just 3 things that have been pending for over a year within the next couple of months.
yes very annoying.. Don't want my supervisors to think i am blowing off my workday!! please fix
I informed my manager about this during a team call - he advised to try and resolve the problem quickly ahead of a software deployment whereby the whole team will be communicating through teams - I found these comments - not very reassuring - I dont think this should be a hard fix for your dev team really - please hurry up and schedule a fix most of my organisation are moving to teams and I dont want to be explaining to my management team my whereabouts or them thinking I'm not at my laptop when I actually am.
My status shows Offline right now for me and colleagues, I cannot even set it to Available or any other status. I can chat and type in channels, even though it shows I'm Offline. Maybe after I reboot my laptop again, but restarting teams doesn't solve it.
I am having this issue few days already :/ really annoing
Hi Alex, I have decided to comment here every-time a colleague calls my phone because my Teams status showed as Away/Offline even when I was actively working on my laptop. I realize this probably won't accomplish anything as you clearly don't care about quality but it does feel good to vent. I also feel validated to see that Microsoft is doing its best to add unnecessary frustrations to people's lives during these stressful times. Expected nothing less and you didn't disappoint.

Have I accidentally selected "Random status - On" in the settings somewhere?
This is really poor.
same issue - status does whatever it wants. can it be fixed?

This is an issue for me too. The Status is not working good at all. As it is now it's much better if we can set Status 100% manual. How hard can it be to get a simple feature like this working? Other communication sofware I used handled it without problems?

100% agree with all comments below. In addition, make a fix where it doesn't show me green just for being on my cell phone, even with teams closed! Team members think I am around all - the - time!

Skype was better in terms of showing the correct status..Teams Status is really irritating as I get calls from other colleagues when I am already in a meeting. Colleagues also don't see that I am in a meeting!!!
