Incorrect status in teams
We have noticed that our Teams statuses are consistently incorrect. Even when some team members are active in Teams they are shown as "away" or "offline". For example, although I can see that my status is "active", my colleagues see my status as "offline".
Can you please fix this bug?
Hi — My apologies for the delay in updating this item. We rolled out a fix a year ago for a specific issue of status changing to away in Teams when you were still active on the device. We thought this had fixed the “incorrect status” issue. From comments below, it sounds like people are still seeing issues.
If you are still having issues, it would be super helpful if you can capture logs by typing Ctrl + Shift + Alt + 1, and send the file from your downloads folder along with device info and detailed repro steps to firstname.lastname@example.org.
Same issue at my University with many of my department. Seems entirely unpredictable, affects some people some days but not other on other days. Manually setting it doesn't last. I've personally watched it set me to "away" in the middle of me actively typing.
We don't need the automations fixed but understand that's what needs fixed;
PLEASE just let us set it manually while you work on fixing the automation!
My mobile status is showing as available even though I am not using the mobile app and not logged in to any PC, co-workers message me thinking I am available even if i am out of the office.
I am also facing same issue.
When user logged-off from Teams and system, his status always shows available.
Please provide the fix for it.
Ii also facing same issue, status automatically becoming "Away". My Manager is getting tensed checking all of his team member away :(, (as you know everyone is Working From Home)
Given that we are all working from home, it looks really bad to have your status show 'away' all day. This is especially frustrating when I've spent the day working on a file in excel. I'm at my computer and I'm working. I'll see a message from Teams if someone sends one. But somehow I'm shown as away all day anyway? Since we're not in the office, Teams is how our managers can 'see' who's in and who's not.
We are also facing the same issue. Please help us to fix this issue permanently. i have two issues.
1. When user is active on his system, but not on Teams, after few minutes, it will show as away/offline.
2. When user logged-off from Teams and system, his status always shows available.
Please provide the fix for it.
i am also still experiencing the problem, showing as available OOO while i am online
I have noticed it when you are on teams on mobile first, haven't logged onto PC teams yet...your status is offline. Once you log onto pc, mobile and pc teams synch up. This is inconvenient, especially in todays world where many of us are remote and use remote/mobile teams. The status needs to update both mobile and pc despite where you log in first.
We have about 30 users in the team. In good days, the status are incorrect for 2-5 users. In bad days, 25 out of 30 users have incorrect status. There is never a day with all users having the correct status. We are running Office 365 (now called Microsoft 365) and we are in the process of migrating to Google apps. The first few users using Google apps are very happy to get away from Office products.
we are also experiencing this at my workplace! Teams status will be available when actually person is in a meeting or in a call... OR vice versa... Very annoying and causes lot of problems. I hope this will be fixed yesterday!
I have the same issue, sometimes it shows as away status, sometimes it just shows as offline if i don't type or don't pop up the teams app in front. Very annoying. People see me offline while I am actually working.
Please stop the above robotic reply. We need a real physical person to fix this.
This is a major issue that needs to be addressed. I don't get any notifications while my status is set to Away, and half the time I don't even notice that I'm "Away" because I've been working!
Unless I am actively using Teams (typing or clicking), I am shown as away or offline. why is this happening ?

Let's be honest here, the status in teams is just nuts. It bares no relation to reality whatsoever. Please go back to drawing board and start again.
Having moved from Skype for business, I expect and my colleagues expect the status to be my status. From Teams help: “Note that Teams will automatically set your status from Available to Away when the Teams app is in the background.”
No, No, No. That is madness, of course the app is in the background most of the day; we're all doing work.
I started getting the same issue too:- Unless I am actively using Teams (typing or clicking), I am shown as away or offline.
This is unacceptable. It's now July 3rd 2020 and Microsoft still can't get the online status fixed. Teams is shit compare to skype. I can't understand why Microsoft is pushing everyone to a buggy piece of crap and can never get it fixed. Some teams members are showing as offline when they are online and offline when they are actually on. I can't imagine if some people actually get fired of it -- it can be part of the reason and your manager may never tell you and won't know the truth until you are already fired. Microsoft Teams and Outlook 365 are the 2 of the most annoying and buggy apps exist on the market today!
Someone will get fired due to this because they always appear offline to their managers.

I am having the same issue where my status changes to Offline even though I am actively working
on my device (laptop in this case).
Similar issue...in reverse from most. My calendar shows me as out of office, but Teams shows me as available so I keep getting pinged and invited to calls/meetings.
