Incorrect status in teams
We have noticed that our Teams statuses are consistently incorrect. Even when some team members are active in Teams they are shown as "away" or "offline". For example, although I can see that my status is "active", my colleagues see my status as "offline".
Can you please fix this bug?

Hi — My apologies for the delay in updating this item. We rolled out a fix a year ago for a specific issue of status changing to away in Teams when you were still active on the device. We thought this had fixed the “incorrect status” issue. From comments below, it sounds like people are still seeing issues.
If you are still having issues, it would be super helpful if you can capture logs by typing Ctrl + Shift + Alt + 1, and send the file from your downloads folder along with device info and detailed repro steps to teamsml@microsoft.com.
Thanks all!

I don't get how a corporation that has this feature working properly in other products(Skype for Business) doesn't have the capacity to implement it here. I work as a dev myself, and often when coding I see that teams shows me as being away. It seems for the past 4 years you have been working on a fix. How can a team be so inefficient and still not fired?

duration is still not being respected in the Windows client app.

Presence/Status in Teams has never been usable. Sad since it worked perfectly in OCS, Lync, and SfB.

I thinks thas a key feature of a "chat app". It is ridiculous that this does not work reliably

This is still an issue that isn't resolved it appears. Not really sure why this can't be fixed. Logging issue with MS.

We have issues with Users showing as "In a Call" when they are not.
I have checked and their "Focus Assist" is not active.

I work for a MSP. Multiple clients are complaining about this issue especially when they were on a call and then hang up. Their status doesn't change back to Available.

Since MS apparently can't fix this problem, REMOVE the function.

We are now seeing a similar issue across our organization. In our case, users are reporting that they are shown as Away in Teams when they have the app minimized but are actively working in other applications on their laptops. This is a problem for people who do use Teams but are not active in the app 8 hours a day. If they have Teams set to their default chat app, then it should show them as active whenever they are at their laptops (just like Skype does, even when you're not activel chatting).

The bug may have changed. If I set my Outlook Calendar meeting to Out of Office or Busy, Teams shows that status correctly, however incoming calls (PSTN) continue to ring. They should automatically go to Voicemail if status is Away or Busy, should they not ?

This continue today and is RAMPANT across our organisation. Other users show people as Away when they're not, Busy when they're available, Available when they're in a Meeting, etc. All using the Teams Windows client. I suspect this is caching related, as when I run a cache clearing script I put together on affected people, the issue goes away temporarily and the correct status is then shown.

Another complaint from me. This is basic stuff. If I come back from being away, my status should immediately change.

I still need to sign out to fix the status. After meetings and sometimes random the status switched to offline.

See quite a few times that either my status is not updated correctly for myself (eg. after a call is ended - it still states I am in a Call - fix: make new call and hang then my status got right)
or
the most common is that my colleagues see a different status on me than I have and vice versa.
Please investigate this! -

As a relatively new user of Teams we need to see who is free to pick up a call and to transfer. This status is really making WFH really hard. Please fix. We are quitting Teams and restarting and status still showing incorrectly for different members of staff.

Please fix this. Management uses Teams' status as a metric of effort, and I am sick of expalining how and why I am not being "away" or "idle."

In these dark times of CoronaVirus many of us are working from home.
It is ESSENTIAL that AWAY=AFK because that is the way our bosses read it!

This is annoying and MS needs to address it as the flagrant design flaw that it is

Teams chat is terrible, especially in the remote setting most of us are forced to now. Some employees rely on their manager/teammates being able to see if they are online and working (and not 'away' if they don't have Teams open for 5min). I work for a company of 350K+ people and this feature is extremely annoying and misleading for my team. It's ridiculous this isn't fixed by one of the biggest companies in the tech world...this should've been fixed years ago, but now especially with this current environment. It is causing disruption and confusion for thousands of people. If I could switch back to our Cisco Jabber chat tool, I would.

Our group has been made to switch from Skype to Teams this past few months, but Teams doesn't allow for the same "Away" customization that Skype allowed. From what I'm seeing, this is a HUGE problem for Microsoft users -- especially in this remote environment we are in currently. Why is there not a fix for this yet?
