Allow a new document to be created from a file template file (eg: .dotx) from within the Files tab for a team.
- A user finds the dotx file and clicks on it and Teams creates the .docx file and opens up Word to edit the file
- When the user saves the file it saves to the same channel in the team

It's now 2019...has this feature been implemented?
It would be very useful to not have to go into Sharepoint to allow our team to create a word document from a template...Sharepoint's Word editing interface does not support all the features of Word such as checkboxes...it would be best to provide the ability create a Word document that is based on a Word template directly from withing Teams.

.dot and xlt files have been around since the early days of office. Simply working in a team space doesn't make these any less useful.
As a team, you might all want to work to a standard precedent but teams doesn't currently support any of the MS Office template files. I've seen plenty of different workarounds, but just being able to run a .dotx or .xltx file directly from teams, which then creates a new, blank, unnamed document isn't possible.
Please add the support / functionality around template files.
The file template management is now available on online sharepoint document library so it's obvious this feature have to be available on teams interface. I can configure that on the sharepoint document library linked with my channel on the sharepoint online site but this can't be found on teams interface... No good. No cool...
If this feature would be possible by customizing the Sharepoint Library it would be helpful if the Team could point us to the hidden template TEAMS is using to build a "Team based Sharepoint site"
