Do Not Disturb unexpectedly changes to Available
I set myself to "Do Not Disturb"
I send a message or a chat.
Teams decides I'm available, and changes me to "Available."
NO, DND means JUST THAT. Please STOP changing my availability!
Once your tenant is using UPS (unified presence service), you should no longer have issues where DND changes back to available.
If you are on UPS, and are experiencing this issue, it would be super helpful if you can capture logs by typing Ctrl + Shift + Alt + 1, and send the file from your downloads folder along with any details to email@example.com.
Having this problem today (3/27/18) while running Microsoft Teams Version 1.1.00.5963 (64-bit). It was last updated on 3/15/18. This is running on Windows 10 Enterprise version1607
This is happening to me on Windows 8.1, no idea what version of Teams I have, but it should be up to date as of 14/03. I don't need any kind of network blip - I set myself to DND, and several seconds later the icon changes, and then changes back as soon as I touch the computer again. It's a basic feature, and a shame it simply doesn't work.

Similarly to the last poster, it firstly takes a bafflingly long time (10-20 seconds) to actually show the red badge after selecting DnD.
Secondly, I can reliably recreate the issue by causing a network blip of sorts - switching wifi on and off, or simply connecting/disconnecting a VPN. From the logs, the app seems to be doing a network check, which briefly fails when switching network. When the app then deems there to be a network connection again, it sets my status back to Available.
Screen cap and logs sent
I sent the logs but here are the report steps that work every time :
Desktop MacOS version 10.12.6 (16G1036)
Teams version: Y1.1.00.5851.
Change Settings to Do Not Disturb
Wait 3-10 seconds for the icon to change
Put Computer into sleep mode for 3-5 seconds
Observe : You are now available
As you computer will typically go to sleep many times a day while you are away from your desk this is a fairly annoying issue. Other conditions also seem to change your status from DND but they are hard to repro.
Also note that setting DnD doesn't work reliably at all on Desktop. I have to set it multiple times to see the icon change. Works fine on mobile but status sync over devices is also a bit buggy.
why does teams still send notifications when the system is under DND ?
I have this issue as well. It is very frustrating. I would like to be able to manually set my status to DND and not have Teams change it without further intervention on my part.

If I set my status to DND, at some point, I'm suddenly and automatically back to Available and I didn't change the setting.
My availability setting should not automatically be updated - I alone should be making the decision about if I am Available or not. Just because I reply to a chat doesn't mean I am suddeny available.
So irritating this has not been addressed for over a year.
Teams does not obey macos DND still keeps showing the alerts
It only works if I change the status to DND inside teams. and this status auto changes by itself to available which I do not want. MOST irritating bug from teams. Makes me uninstall this.

It appears this issue is falling on deaf ears.
This is a MASSIVE BUG and TEAMS is unusable for those who relay on this like in Skype for Business...I am sure there are 100 other similar threads.
It takes me 3 clicks to make sure this is set before I can start my meeting and know that I won't be disturbed by associates during the meeting.
I can also confirm it will unset DND just by unminimising the app. Please remove this as its completely useless and annoying.
This is a great annoyance that makes it seem like the app is broken as I constantly have to with my status manually to undo this.
I understand it's meant to make my life easier by auto-switching under the assumption that responding means I'm available and have forgotten to switch status. But it's a false assumption

Why bother to allow us to change availability at all if you are just going to override it?

Yes, PLEASE! Everyone in the office complains about this and we have all resorted to closing teams for a screenshare if we have to share the same screen that teams pops up notifications.
1) If I set DND, please do not change my status to another available state. ever. like, never ever. unless I manually change out of this status. I set DND to get work done or maintain privacy and professionalism on a screenshare.
This is not a difficult concept and every other messaging programming offers this feature - so I really hope it is a "bug" and was not designed to play status roulette.
I understand that our calendars tie into this - but DND should be an override status and the only other status acceptable would be "offline". and if I log back in, please retain my DND state if it was on when I logged out of the application.

Seriously! Under what scenario if I set DND would I want you (Teams) to UNSET it back to available when I go back into the client??
James Dulin commented
This seems to be even worse, as it seems like it will unset it without even sending a message. DND also needs to prevent messages and popups. I set to DnD, start a screenshare, and i get pop up messages during my screenshare. It should work just like Skype

Agree! This is silly behavior, and not at all expected. Can verify that this happens from both desktop client and from chrome on the Mac.
Ditto, I have had the same experience as well.
