Such a basic thing missing ... please implement this
We need this feature...
Please add this feature in the next release.
Perhaps if it is very cumbersome to rename or delete the General Channel then you might provide the capability to clone it. In our organization we created a detailed Channel under the General heading and now we are stuck with it. If we could clone it and name the clone to our liking then we could, over time, modify the General Channel so that the information stored there fit that heading.
our case: general is not clear enough about what this channel should be used for. we would rather have a senseful name per team.
another point is the translation issue. in german for example the channel is called "Allgemein" and every OneNote page is prefixed "Allgemein - Tab name", but in OneDrive the folder is called "General".
So we would love to rename the default channel (or delete it and have another one), but also have the rename being used for both channel, tabs and directory structure...

being able to delete it would be nice

It's the first thing that I wanted to do...
Provide ability to modify the default name

Same here. I just realized right now this issue has been going for most of 2017. And we need to either rename the General channel or delete it. We do't want it in one specific Team and I guess it's not possible to delete it.

this inability to modify or remove the "General" channel is killing us. on top of this it is always pin to top, so even if i have all my additional channels to be with letters: a to d, it still stays on top of them and then the alphabetical sort order is happening.

Please add this feature it will be really useful, the General channel just ends up lurking around without actually being wanted
Sorry if I've missed this, but a response from Microsoft and update on progress on this site, clearly marked, would be extremely helpful.
In general, it's disappointing that some of the fundamental issues with Teams are not being resolved quicker. For me the speed of response (i.e. when you type, move between Teams etc. there's too much of a delay), the ability to move channels and this issue regarding deleting or renaming the General channel name are all good examples.
More fundamentally, the team I'm working with include a number of creatives and entrepreneurs and I'm under pressure to move to Google and Slack and it's getting more and more difficult to defend Microsoft (the lack of intuitive interface, why Sharepoint and OneDrive, lock-in you get in OneNote etc.). Just recently the team adopted Trello and there's already a built in link between Trello and Slack, so I'll be under yet more pressure to move away from Microsoft. The younger generation expect a much better user experience and have no loyalty with Microsoft, it needs to be earned.
I'd really appreciate better, clearer and more genuine customer interaction and for Microsoft to reconsider their approach to overall product experience. I'm a big fan of Satya Nadella, your CEO, and wonder how close he is to what customers are actually experiencing?
I tried to change the Channel Name by editing the library name in sharepoint, not only did it not change the channel name but you get a 404 page not found. I changed the library name back to General and everything is good again. They really need to add this feature. Changing channel names is kind of important.
Can you please provide an update on this feature, creation of enterprise wide groups makes this "general" channel confusing.
Quite an unusual oversight. (Although there's a few of them that are popping up around the Microsoft framework these days!)
I'm surprised this functionality wasn't included from the start to be honest...
It is fundamental to collaborative work that you can specify the names you require for the "channels"
yes please !
as Teams defaults and puts admin activties in there, but my workmates think it is for 'misc' conversations it gets messy !
If the general channel cannot be renamed, suggests some underlying design issues.
I would also like to have the ability to delete the General channel. Have been testing a Team General channel with bots, and removed all of them after I found them not relevant for the Team. Because it is not allowed to delete all the chat history, I wanted to delete the General channel, but to no avail. This should be a function for Team owners to have.
