Copy paste markdown text should do proper formatting
Although markdown works as you type things in by hand, it should also format text that is pasted into Teams.
We often have markdown docs or other existing assets that we're discussing, and being able to copy-paste markdown into Teams would help make that process a lot easier than retyping everything by hand!
4 years on and still... Enterprise monopoly at it's finest.

Please. Really annoying to have an inconsistency like this. I like to write 'posts' out of window and this makes them u-g-l-y.
Please add this, I wouldn't recommend Teams to anyone with an engineering team because of this, it's a nightmare to send small code snippets.

I really want this feature, but even if Teams didn't enable markdown to automatically render on paste, which I could see why they might not want that to happen automatically, I would be pretty happy if I could paste in markdown, then click a button to have it render properly if that was my desired effect.
That said, I would personally prefer the opposite approach, where I'd like pasted markdown to render automatically, but maybe have a button to have it unrender if that was not desired... though I'd be most likely to use a code block in that case.

This is a pain in the neck for relatively elaborate posts in Teams, since whether Enter or Shift-Enter submits depends on context. It'd be much nicer to compose my post in an editor and paste it in.
we need to support the copy and paste of formatting
- from wiki to wiki
- from word to wiki
Agree with all the posts below, brought up short by this today. I use vscode for markdown and had existing documents that I needed to incorporate into a teams wiki in a different department.
It is very good idea.
Also Wiki is needed same copy&paste markdown formatting.

+1 I prefer to write my markdown ahead of time (either in VS Code or OneNote) and then paste in however that feature doesn't work as of today. Would love the ability to disable auto-formatting of markdown to rich text in the editor and only convert markdown once submitted. Allowing me to either edit markdown directly in the textarea in Teams OR write it up in any other tool (such as VS Code) and then paste in.
Until this is completed a workaround is pasting the text in a converter to "rich text" first and then copying the result into Teams. For example this one https://stackedit.io/editor

This is a huge roadbload for my team to switch to this for the same reasons mentioned above. Markdown is "good enough" today, but the lack of copy/paste of existing markdown and the lack of full markdown support syntax is a big problem for us.
