Efficiency: Focus in text fields and Keyboard Shortcuts
It is highly inefficient if i want to initiate a chat with a co worker.
What i have to do is:
1. Click in Search
2. Type name
3. Use Down Arrow (to Skip Search for ***) even if the Result matches
4. Click Or Enter to Select the user
5. Focus as of now remains in the Search
6. Click on Chat Text box to get focus.
All of this is required to do just one thing, Initiate a chat with a co-worker.
Slack has this tackled very very effectively
Ctrl + F and you can trigger a search without using mouse.
Once user is selected the focus is directly in the Chat box
Such similar efficiency micro interactions need to be taken care of.

I would use CTRL-L to focus to the "Search or command" field, like it would do in a browser to type in the URL, or CTRL-F for a search in any other software.

WORKAROUND: For people who use keyboard automation software (Autohotkeys). Here's the command line you need to initiate a chat directly with a coworker:
And yes, again, as with other things, follow suit with what something like Slack does so that when people switch they don't feel like they are crippled and entering a totally different world. It's kind of like the nonsense that was DOS. :) UNIX syntax had been around for years before DOS but MS had to make up their own syntax. Stupid.
Keyboard focus is terrible. If I'm typing in Teams (anywhere) and I Alt+Tab to look at something and come back, I should be right where I left off. Instead I have to re-click every time. And aside from that, the default focus should always be in the chat (or configurable by each user!) and some kind of keyboard shortcut to have you start typing in the global search/command window. Kind of like in Visual Studio Code. Don't your teams ever talk to each other?

Slack has this nailed with the Control T Search box

You can already trigger a search from the keyboard using Alt+E on Windows, and Option+E on Mac.

So many times I switch into the app, and the focus is not in the text field, and I am ******* out a message that is doing nothing. The focus should always be in the text field!
