Excel spreadsheet not working from inside Teams app
When creating an Excel Spreadsheet directly in the Files section in the Teams App (Windows 10 Enterprise), the file is being listed in the files area, but is not possible to open. It claims that the format is incorrect. When opening the same file area in Sharepoint Online, the file is created just fine and can be opened in the Teams file area. This appears as a clear bug as we did not utilise any "special characters" either.

We are also experiencing some issues opening Excel spread sheets from Teams. The page just sits there spinning and it never opens the document.
I am wondering if this is a bug, or just lack of functionality. I have no problems with doing this, so you might want to consider creating a support request at Microsoft via your companies Office 365 admin center or post it on the support pages of Microsoft.
I cant open a shared excel file and create a new file in Teams.
