Ability to hide or minimize gifs (at user level)
I like a lot about Teams. However, one of the nice features of your main competitor is that on things like GIFs you can minimize them. GIFs are fun, but after the initial fun they are annoying to keep seeing auto playing in the feed. So a way to minimize them in the feed would be great.
This feature request is still being reviewed by the feature team.
YES! I have epilepsy and not being able to allow the GIFS to stop playing is an enormous hindrence - my team is a bit salty they can't use GIFs as well. They keep playing over and over and often the animation is triggering/FAST.
please kill all gifs, they are a vehicle to spread racist images and stereotypes. I see about 50 of them a day and about 75% are racist, sexist and offensive,

Is it possible to disabled GIFs in Teams in web only mode?
Under Review since August 2018. What a joke this is Warren..........
Team chat use to be engaging, informative and professional. Now it's just contest to see who can post the wittiest meme. It is absolutely outrageous that I do not have an option to filter out memes completely. Thanks MS. Because of memes, I am starting to hate the people I work with. All they do is meme back and forth all day long, I can't stand it. So yeah, thanks for that.
I think being able to disable gifs on a per user level is a must. they annoy allot of people and has made the adoption of teams harder with certain people refusing to use Teams due to the gifs.

I'll add my request for this feature as well, for all the same reasons as everyone else has already mentioned. It was fun at first, but now it just gives me fatigue—having to scroll past all the images that take up space and my attention away from text that people are trying to type.
I'd like a per-user setting, where one can disable inline images by default, replace them with a simple placeholder which I can click on to selectively view, if I want. Also, if the post is pure image, and I've disabled images by default, optionally don't every notify me.
So many times I get a notification, only to switch back to Teams and find it was just a GIF or a meme. Not helpful when I'm on a deadline, and time is precious!
Agreed. The moving GIFs are too distracting, especially if they are in bad taste. Why do I HAVE to look at them. I just want the ability to minimize or delete them from my view space.
Chats, Teams Channels, Meeting conversations... give us an option to avoid the GIF onslaught by making them default to a collapsed view with a toggle to expand IF we choose
Help me stop feeling like a curmudgeonly old man. I always have Teams up on a secondary screen and I swear at my computer daily because of some stupid reaction gif ripping my attention away from actual work. You added the ability to use gifs without a way to neutralize them.
Other major competing products have this feature *COUGH* *SLACK* *COUGH*
Thanks for all the wasted space in the meantime while this is still being 'reviewed' 3+ later

is there a way to only have corporate-themed gifs in giphy?
I am sick of all the LGBTQ and politically charged gifs.
Make them funny or NOTHING!!!!!!!
In-review for almost two years isn't a good look
Please create an option for this.... OMG the GIFs are so distracting and to ask for the whole team chat to not use them because I find them distracting makes me seem like a bad guy - I should be able to totally disable seeing them on a user level if I want so my coworkers who enjoy GIFs can use them but I dont have to see them - only the text - not being able to control this is just awful and made our company switching to teams for me a very non-enjoyable experience

For an intermediate hack, see the comment below from Alex on Jan 3, 2020. Adding the giphy URLs to your host file solves the problem enough. The screen space that the giphys ordinarily take up in your chat window are still there, but at least they're just blank space (with a 'play button') now. If Microsoft isn't going to implement this feature setting in Teams, then this is the next best solution.

What a bunch of sour grapes...LOL GIFYS make chat life tolerable.
And I can find messages much faster cause I remember the GIFYS people commented with at the time.
Please can you how to delete a gif? I added one at the beginning of a meeting and it is now there for every meeting. it is very unprofessional and I need to get rid of it fast. thanks Louise
Causes too much clutter
I do not have the ability to turn off gifs for any channel. It appears we've gone backwards instead of forwards since this was requested. There are those of us that think gifs are not fun. I need to be able to turn them off in chats and channels. I don't want to be alerted when 15 gifs are posted in response to each other, it makes Teams less relevant and effective to actual work. This would help because:
1 I can be alerted to actual relevant work conversations
2 I don't have to get annoyed every time I look at teams
I'm disappointed this isn't already completed.
