Ability to hide or minimize gifs (at user level)
I like a lot about Teams. However, one of the nice features of your main competitor is that on things like GIFs you can minimize them. GIFs are fun, but after the initial fun they are annoying to keep seeing auto playing in the feed. So a way to minimize them in the feed would be great.
This feature request is still being reviewed by the feature team.
Chats, Teams Channels, Meeting conversations... give us an option to avoid the GIF onslaught by making them default to a collapsed view with a toggle to expand IF we choose
Help me stop feeling like a curmudgeonly old man. I always have Teams up on a secondary screen and I swear at my computer daily because of some stupid reaction gif ripping my attention away from actual work. You added the ability to use gifs without a way to neutralize them.
Other major competing products have this feature *COUGH* *SLACK* *COUGH*
Thanks for all the wasted space in the meantime while this is still being 'reviewed' 3+ later

is there a way to only have corporate-themed gifs in giphy?
I am sick of all the LGBTQ and politically charged gifs.
Make them funny or NOTHING!!!!!!!
In-review for almost two years isn't a good look
Please create an option for this.... OMG the GIFs are so distracting and to ask for the whole team chat to not use them because I find them distracting makes me seem like a bad guy - I should be able to totally disable seeing them on a user level if I want so my coworkers who enjoy GIFs can use them but I dont have to see them - only the text - not being able to control this is just awful and made our company switching to teams for me a very non-enjoyable experience

For an intermediate hack, see the comment below from Alex on Jan 3, 2020. Adding the giphy URLs to your host file solves the problem enough. The screen space that the giphys ordinarily take up in your chat window are still there, but at least they're just blank space (with a 'play button') now. If Microsoft isn't going to implement this feature setting in Teams, then this is the next best solution.

What a bunch of sour grapes...LOL GIFYS make chat life tolerable.
And I can find messages much faster cause I remember the GIFYS people commented with at the time.
Please can you how to delete a gif? I added one at the beginning of a meeting and it is now there for every meeting. it is very unprofessional and I need to get rid of it fast. thanks Louise
Causes too much clutter
I do not have the ability to turn off gifs for any channel. It appears we've gone backwards instead of forwards since this was requested. There are those of us that think gifs are not fun. I need to be able to turn them off in chats and channels. I don't want to be alerted when 15 gifs are posted in response to each other, it makes Teams less relevant and effective to actual work. This would help because:
1 I can be alerted to actual relevant work conversations
2 I don't have to get annoyed every time I look at teams
I'm disappointed this isn't already completed.
This seems like a completely reasonable request. After three years can we at least get an update if the feature is going to be implemented or not? I agree with the request. For some channels I am in - this is a must have. I want to be able to decide for myself if I should get the flood of gifs.

I agree with this request. I work in a team that does not work the same way I do and I need this feature. PLEASE!
Hello, we just started using Teams, and it is really great, but we really need this please!
If there is way for a user to hide and un-hide all the stickers/memes/Gifs in a chat window, that would be much appreciated!
Please! I need this feature!
I would like to be able to have a toggle in the teams client to completely disable these irritating GIFs from appearing in my client. - this should be an option at a user level, so that those that want to participate can, but those of us who find this to be disturbing and irritating can turn it off individually even though the owner or admin of the channel or chat session has them enabled.
- either that or someone please develop some software to block them please!
Please review this faster! Definitely want GIFs in channels, but would love for a /collapse type quick command or small button next to the GIF.
Minimize all of the links and GIFs in the current channel or chat so I can quickly get back to the topic at hand instead of the conversation being broken up by giant blocks of images/animated gifs.
I would MUCH rather go back to Cisco Jabber than continue dealing with all the cretinous gifs people like to drop into a CORPORATE chat mechanism.
Amen to hiding/minimizing gifs. Nothing should be on autoplay in the first place.
Would love if gifs were received as thumbnails that you could click to expand/minimize. Or if they did show up at the regular size, let me collapse them individually PLEASE.
As an ugly workaround I added these to my hosts file
