Metadata / Customized Views in Files Tab
Show Metadata in the Files Tab to easily see, add and change metadata. (It seems that now you have do all that in Sharepoint)
Customizing the files view has been announced and is coming soon! This will include viewing metadata from document libraries and lists.
Here is the link to the blog post that details the features that are coming: https://techcommunity.microsoft.com/t5/microsoft-sharepoint-blog/rich-new-file-and-sharing-experiences-throughout-microsoft-365/ba-p/960129
Seems like the larger message is being missed here. It is not VIEWING it that really matters people must be able to ENTER (edit) the field. We have choice drop downs that we can't see and all editing is blocked.
Any updates available? We need to add or edit the metadata of files in teams.
We ask a huge effort of our co-workers to change working with folders to working with metadata but it really doesn't help that Teams doesn't support adding or editing metadata. Any extra click is one too many...

Any updates when this will be implemented? The status says "Working on it" since Jan 24, 2020!

Editing file metadata from Files in Teams is critical.

I know metatdata is now visible in the 'Files' tab, but why is this still not available when surfacing any other SharePoint library as a tab in Teams? Really need this feature for surfacing document libraries that need to be accessed by a number of teams. Not much point carefully assigning metadata to create sharepoint views for retrieval if none of this is visible through teams

We need to edit document metadata under the "file" tab in Teams.
It's so frustrating that I can get metadata displaying on the files tab in teams but if I add a seconds document library It wont show and I am unable to add a document library as a SharePoint page link.
We need the abilities to edit/add Metadata directly in the teams File tab. Its near impossible to get our users to stay in Teams when I have to direct them to SP Online to add them. They remain there and often resort to SP Online instead of teams as a result. Maximum Teams usage is the goal for us. One platform
Mar. 22, 2017: suggestion officially recorded
Jan 24, 2020: "coming soon"
Oct. 5, 2020: still waiting

This is critical for ensuring information managed within Teams complies with our info security and retention/disposition standards.
Editing file metadata is critical. Please ensure update includes the ability to EDIT metadata directly from Teams.

That is great news. Do you know when this may be available generally? I have clients asking for the ability to edit metadata directly from the Files tab.

Customization of views is there today (20/8/20) but it is NOT possible to edit / set the metadata from Teams.
Please add a Properties option to the Teams file view to permit editing of metadata.
The link showing rich new file sharing experience, makes no mention of the setting or editing of metadata via a Properties menu option. This should be available both for files and folders as in SharePoint.
Migrating from Sharepoint to Teams should be a step forward with better features, not backwards where you lose metadata and tags! this is a disappointment.

I agree, we need this ASAP, we want to focus on Teams, but this is a "punch in the face" for us since the users needs to go in SPO to change metadata and they stay in it... instead of going back to Teams
Will the additional customization permit showing fields like "filesize" and "last modified date" ?

It will be helpful - if we bring in all SharePoint file operations in Teams directly (without doing it in SP every time). I could see individuals request for specific file operations in other threads.

What's the point in changing things in the "Files" tab, e.g. the "All Documents" view, then saving the view, then leaving the tab, coming back and realizing it's all as it used to be - sorted by "Modified"...?
Yes, the new files experience has launched, but it only allows viewing and filtering by metadata from within Teams. However, it seems you still have to open the library in SharePoint to actually edit the metadata. This extra step will continue to encourage users to create folders within Teams libraries instead, which leads to Ragnarok... or maybe just really annoyed Teams/SharePoint champions. Nearly there, but please complete the job!
Updating Columns / files properties is essential for our Agency Teams adoption. Can't wait for this feature to be available
