Browser/OS independent desktop notifications using HTML5
Not sure about the desktop clients because there isn't one available for my operating system. However, the web app is essentially unfit for purpose because I can't tell when anyone is trying to contact me unless I sit there, constantly staring at the app.
This is still being worked upon and making good progress! Stay tuned for additional updates.

There is only one person in my team using teams, the rest of us cannot due to lack of desktop client and the web client notifications are non existant.
Yes, this is absolutely necessary. Me and my team started using this and now we have to pause. Important messages are not getting attention at the right time, since no one is constantly is looking at the teams web page (no one should). Will resume once the app has this ability.

Currently in Teams when using Chrome and Windows 10, banner notifications only display to the browser window. These notification would be far more useful if they displayed to the desktop, particularly when the browser window is not in focus.
Add notification for chrome like facebook notification on chrome
