Multiple Group chats
Cannot have more than 1 group chat with same members. I dont want to create a "Team" for things that do NOT need all the Team bells and whistles (Sharepoint, Cal, etc). But we would like to have more than 1 group chat with the same members but with different chat names. ie: Chat Name: Oranges Chatters: Joe, Jane & John. Chat Name: Apples Chatters: Joe, Jane & John.. Cant do it currently. It will only allow to change the chat name

I agree the other work around is better. Though the function of that down arrow is pretty well hidden. I did not initially realize that you had to start adding names first; I thought you could create the group that way first.

The work around is ok short term, but not sufficient long term. I have many chats with different people. I end up having to create a chat with someone from other teams to create the group and then remove them. I let them know so that they are not confused by all the chat group requests/removals. Kind of a hassle though. It should be possible to just create a chat group and then add people.

a) create a new group chat with few members
b) rename the group chat
c) add rest of the membersthis way you can have multiple group chats with same members.

the arrow button on the right does not work for me. It does drop down The group name header I type a new subject in there. Then add person in To: field. But when I try to sen it say that I need to add another person to start the chat.
If I don't do the drop down, and put the person in the To: field, it opens the existing conversation.

John D. Shkolnik, read MilenaN's comment more carefully. Did you miss the arrow button?

edit: i ultimately found the "new chat" button (in the purple top bar, to the right of "Microsoft Teams" logo. only an icon, no text, so not easy to spot!). this one does enable what i need. hope someone else finds this useful.
i create ad-hoc topic-based group chats all the time and sometimes they need to be resurrected at a later point (so searching by group chat name is useful) or have more people added to them at a later stage (at which point i want to give them access to all chat history from that topic). many of these start of with the same participants but then branch out and involve other different people. i also have concurrent topic-chats with the same people from time to time and i want to be able to distinguish them. the lack of this support severely reduces the utility of the tool.

MilenaN, this is not supported. If you start a new chat with same participants, it will immediately recognize it's an already existing named group chat.
What we want is for each named chat to be unique with its own history and context.

This is already being supported.
You can create new group chat with the same group of people by clicking on 'New Chat' button and in the To line clicking on the 'arrow' button to expand Chat Title section.
Note: chat title is optional. -

This would be very helpful. At the moment we are getting lots of requests of people that want to collaborate for project work but they don't really need to get a new Team for it. All they want is to be able to chat and share some files so the ability to have multiple chats with the same group of people and rename the conversation to the Project Name would allow for this
