don't switch to "away", just because I'm using a different application (i'm still at work!)
The availability status should indicate whether or not someone is available, which means they are available to chat.
So it does not make sense to switch my status to away, just because I'm answering email or do something else on my computer.
The fix for this is officially completed! For the specific issue of status changing to away in Teams when you are still active on the device, there was still a small % of users who saw the broken behavior, but as of today, all should be working correctly. Please note this was a backend fix, so no client update is needed.
If you believe you are still having an issue, please feel free to capture logs by typing Ctrl + Shift + Alt + 1, and send the file from your downloads folder along with detailed repro steps to email@example.com.
Thanks everyone – and enjoy!

Does anyone know whether the new resolution that is being tested will rely on SfB presence, or is it Teams-specific, meaning that I would I be able to uninstall SfB?
Also, sorry for logging the 666th vote on this issue. I just wanted to get updates, but now I fear that I may have just triggered the apocalypse.
As a remote business user, in a distributed company, this is how we communicate. Having it go "away" every 90-120 seconds is incredibly useless. This seems like a basic functionality that should be added (please).

Is this still on track for the end of August? I just moved a large number of people over to Teams from SfB, and then NOW discovered this. I'm getting a lot of blowback. Would help to confirm the date it'll be working.

Any status updates on this? I have several users requesting it and pointing to this as a reason that we should not leave SfB yet.
I always appears away when in fact i am working at my notebook. Need to appears connected when there is activity in the computer.
It's now August, any updates if this is now fixed? Literally anyone who is not using in Teams chatting shows as away even if I'm actively worked in another program on the same computer.

Created in March ... in July we are still waiting.
As usual with Office 365 applications are added but nothing is integrated with anything, or so very badly.
To believe that nobody at Microsoft use Office 365! How else can we explain that there are two different systems of presence ?!
Once again (too much?) a frustrating user experience ... and an unworthy length of reaction.

Not sure if this needs a separate item, but, the problem is more than just "away" status. DnD doesnt work either, and is hurting our adoption of Teams as most people logout completely when doing screenshares, etc, and then forget to log back in, etc.

Any progress with this? We are just starting out using Teams and this is definitely something that would be great if you fixed it.
Well; There were already some requests llike this and they are always closed.
To use MS Teams as a corporate tool ( as we are trying to), required that other collegues KNOW that you are aviaable on their desks, even if they are not using the MS Teams (running on background).
They way it is now is just TERRIBLE! I want to see who is avaiable from my teams in other country and I don`t know... Because people are working in actual other stuff and not playing in teams the entire day!
Please allow us to set status similarly as its done in skype .

But also Teams is not showing the Skype4Business account status of others not properly. It is different to their status showing in SfB itself.
This would be helpful. Can be quite confusing to auto tag as away when the app is still open on the screen.
Get it out now. Thanks.
Any updates please?
We are now using Teams as a company, and this is the most frustrating thing about it. If you're working on your computer, your status needs to stay green, "Available". Please fix this for Mac and Windows apps asap.

and i add that status pass to offline after a while in away status.

This is really really frustrating, especially when working remote. What I need is a status that reflects if a co-worker is available (at his desk, not in a presentation, not in a meeting, etc). Wait a minute, ... oh yes, that's how skype for business works :-D
Is there any status updates to this? I just started using teams at a new company and I constantly see everyone as "Away" even though they are at their desk, just not using teams.
It is making me recommend us swapping to slack, this is exceedingly annoying especially when working with people remote.
