don't switch to "away", just because I'm using a different application (i'm still at work!)
The availability status should indicate whether or not someone is available, which means they are available to chat.
So it does not make sense to switch my status to away, just because I'm answering email or do something else on my computer.

The fix for this is officially completed! For the specific issue of status changing to away in Teams when you are still active on the device, there was still a small % of users who saw the broken behavior, but as of today, all should be working correctly. Please note this was a backend fix, so no client update is needed.
If you believe you are still having an issue, please feel free to capture logs by typing Ctrl + Shift + Alt + 1, and send the file from your downloads folder along with detailed repro steps to teamsml@microsoft.com.
Thanks everyone – and enjoy!

Mine still does it - I can be in another app on my laptop and if not using teams it switches in 5 minutes to away

If I switch off of Teams and then back onto it, it takes a good 20-30 seconds for it to re-register statuses of people in my chat window. It's inefficient - if I want to chat someone and I have to wait to see if they're online, I just switch to Jabber, and get their status there before Teams even displays properly.

Alex, the problem might not be what you think. Our org hasn't gotten an update since 1/31. Checking for updates says "you are on the latest teams! Enjoy"
I think the problem is that people aren't getting the update.

Working MUCH better now. Still not perfect, but it's so much better than it was before, thanks for that update.

I have just done this test. I opened Teams and another program. My status in Teams was Available. I switched to the other program and used the program for 10 minutes. During that time, my status in Teams was Available even though I was not using it. I then stopped using my PC altogether. After a short while (maybe 6 minutes), my status changed to Away. I then started using the other program again. However, my status in Teams remained as Away even though I was using my PC. My status only changed to Available when I started using Teams again. I'm using Microsoft Teams Version 1.1.00.2251 (64 bit) on Windows.

Can you please provide details? Do we need to have both teams and Skype for business installed for this to work? Also what if we are signed into teams on our phone and our computer? Which one will "win" to determine our status??

can we put some definition to several days? It's two weeks later and mine is still changing to away after a few minutes.

If the roll-out is completed it was not completely successful because I'm still seeing people available on S4B while being away on Teams. The situation has definitely improved though as most appear to show correct status now.

Well, I thought that I had received the fix, as report that my status no longer appeared to display as away in the app, however others on my team still see me as away. Maybe the update isn't fully in place?

Great, please let us know when it is done so we can determine i it solved all our problems.
And to the people below who didn't read what he just said carefully enough, it is a backend fix so there will be no new version.

Sweet! Thank you guys. Is this a client update that can be tracked in release notes or is it backend?

Hi there. Any updates on this?
We've got the same issue here and it is causing drama about attendance & availability at work.
It would be terribly unfortunate if your product ended up getting some poor soul fired from their job.
Personally, I would consider this kind of problem to be a pretty urgent issue (if it has not already been made priority). -

Good to hear! Now if you could have just done this six months ago, we wouldn't have had to switch to Slack.
