Make "Follow this channel" the default setting.
Usual Microsoft lack of UI intuition.
Channels should be followed by default with the user unfollowing it if they wish.

Thank you for the feedback. Changing the default setting is under review by the feature team, and your feedback is very useful as they are evaluating.

Totally agree! What is also frustrating is that not many people know about this so I'm constantly reaching out and explaining how to turn notifications on (to their bewildered look).

I agree COMPLETELY. This same request has been requested in other UserVoice threads. Is there any reason not to allow administrators to make sure users get notified? (1) Notifications should be ON by default. (2) Administrators should be able to turn on notifications for all users for each channel.

Please add this! With COVID-19 work from home for the entire organization we need to utilize teams more and more for communication and projects etc. No one receives notifications and will be bothered to update it for every channel they want. Some channels admins need to force all users to see updates.

This is absolutely imperative - especially during the work-from-home situation that COVID-19 has forced us all into!

I agree COMPLETELY. This same request has been requested in other UserVoice threads and is an absolute must if Teams is going to be used for daily communication.
Please make enabling this an urgent priority:
1. Notifications should be ON by default.
2. Administrators should be able to turn on notifications for all users for each channel. -

This is an absolute must - please get this done more quickly. We are trying to use teams as a daily method of communication, but that doesn't work if every user has to turn on notifications on every channel. Enable administrator control of this ASAP please.

Let me add my voice to this. I'd rather have notifications enabled as the default setting for users. They can then choose to unfollow. I'm going to encourage people to follow and then consider whether or not they want the Banner option. It's the "pop-up" that can be distracting.

A must. Teams is an amazing tool that is revolutionizing the manner in which we engage each other. On issue is we are deaf as no one knows when we are talking unless we enable alerts for each channel. #LoveTeams

I think both the option to default auto-on/off for everyone by admin for a channel is important...but also the ability to 'choose who' has their notifications auto-on by the owner .
Ideally we would like to be able to set 'auto-off(on)' by admin for channel creation within a team & then the 'channel' owner can set some people' auto-on(off) when they create the channel! ie this allows the targeted people to not have to do any setup of their own & missout on something that may be important to them without annoying everyone else that isn't interested (and without creating a private channel to enforce this). ie we want some people to get notified by default & others to not get notified but have the option to have a look & join in if they want.
A classic example is a 'Projects Department' Team with a seperate channel for each project (non-private). The owner wants to be able to assign only the individual 'project team members' to auto - receive notifications for their projects(channels) and the rest to have them auto-off. -

This is unbelievable, such a well put together platform and this is the bottleneck...

Notifications should be ON be default and they can turn it off if they want . Channels are useless if people don't have any way to notice new message was posted. Existing alternatives are not practical ( Asking users to manually tag people for new post every time, ask users to manually monitor channels or change notifications settings). This is causing huge adoption problems in my organization

Greatly needed, most of our org is using manual chat right now due to the notifications being set up "correctly" by default. Makes it very difficult to promote using their dedicated Team when they have to go out of their way to see that people are talking to them.
We have processes ensure that new staff are added to a given team, but since all activity is currently occurring in informal/manual chats this entire workflow is being bypassed by our end users for convenience. We're battling this through recurring training right now, but we honestly shouldn't have to be.
