Make "Follow this channel" the default setting.
Usual Microsoft lack of UI intuition.
Channels should be followed by default with the user unfollowing it if they wish.

Thank you for the feedback. Changing the default setting is under review by the feature team, and your feedback is very useful as they are evaluating.

Notify should certainly be the default as so many people are missing important information within a team - could even be a setting on the team/channel to set the default for all team members

This is a long time to decide on and change something simple like the default channel notification settings. Most other pieces of Microsoft software are "full open" by default and you tailor them back to meet your needs. Other pieces of Teams are this way, like: the default position around Team/O365 group creation, Team/channel member settings, app/bot add-ins, etc. Why not this one piece? We are getting a lot of feedback from our users as well that having to manually enable notifications in new channels seems very backwards and not intuitive.

Please add this Yesterday! There are no fewer than a dozen other similar suggestions on this site each with dozens of votes to add this feature. I'm amazed channel notifications haven't been on by default. So much frustration can be avoided by changing this. Please!

How am I able to convince my team members to transition over from Slack when this still isn't supported? People are complaining about not seeing messages all the time!

P.S. The situation would be made a lot simpler, if there were tick boxes for notifcations in the Channel settings.

Yes, you absolutely have to add this feature. It is very easy to miss new posts by accidentally not enabling notifications for the relevant channel. Have a default whereby notifications are set to "on" for all new channels would resolve this.

How is this still not a thing yet?
How are we meant to migrate users who are not tech-savvy to Teams when the default behaviour is that they do not see any of the notifications for new channels they are added to?
This should be enabled / followed by default, with 'opt-out' to mute notifications per channel. Just like, you know, every other successful collaboration and messaging app..Slack, WhatsApp, etc..

Agreed! Owners of a Team should have the option to set Team Notifications on by default for team members. In addition, it should also be an option to allow only Team owners to post to a group. This way we can use the group to send quick notifications without spamming everyone's email!

We need the ability to be able to set notifications of NEW posts to a channel via email as sometimes important posts can be missed if you are away from Teams. Also it is easier to track emails than posts. The setting currently available under user profile for Notifications (Banner and Email) does not seem to work even if "missed activity emails" have been set to "as soon as possible".Kindly add this feature.

Agree 100% they should be on by default or settable by the Team owner. We just rolled out teams and tried to foster some collaboration, and it's falling flat because users aren't participating.

+1 for this, and/or Don's idea of being able to manage it through a group policy

This is an absolute must, and I can't believe it has been under review for 2.5 years so far!

Totally agree. It should be ON by default.

We're moving from Slack to Teams and this is a must-have feature -- on Slack by defualt if you're in the channel you get notifications, which makes announcements and broadcasts visible to everyone. Asking our whole staff to go turn on notifications is unreasonable; at least make auto-on or forced-on notifications a powershell or admin-configurable knob!

yes PLEASE make it the ability of the creator of a channel to have notifications turned on automatically for all, and then they can choose to turn them off.
