Make "Follow this channel" the default setting.
Usual Microsoft lack of UI intuition.
Channels should be followed by default with the user unfollowing it if they wish.

Thank you for the feedback. Changing the default setting is under review by the feature team, and your feedback is very useful as they are evaluating.

I also think that this is a problem!

This has been under review for nearly 18 months? Any chance of it actually happening? It's such a poor feature as-is.

We definitely need this feature. The notifications should also go into the Windows 10 notification area.

At the same time, it would be good if notifications appeared in the Windows 10 notification area.

Ridiculous that this isn't the default option.

This should definitely be the default setting. after creating a channel, we have to manually tell everyone to follow the channel so they can start getting these alerts.

Wish I had known this BEFORE deploying. It's causing all kinds of headaches. Should be opt-out instead of opt-in for following channels.

This single issue has caused so much confusion and push back to our deployment. Nobody ever sees the messages that are sent to teams they are a part of. We add someone to a Team and they expect to get notified about messages.

Some people in my organisation have learned to counter this omission by tagging the whole team/channel in their every message. Which is (a) merely a workaround to the software issue, and (b) annoying if I explicitly did not want to follow a discussion in a particular channel. Others simply prefer group chats to teams, even though they do not get to use many features this way, like threaded conversations.

Yes please! I didn't notice it, until I figured, that I don't get messages for channels which are my favorites and therefore I always have to make other users aware that they also have to follow the channel to actually recieve notifications. Following as default would avoid any confusions with new users who are in the process of getting themselves on track with teams

We moved from slack to teams as part of an O365 migration and notifications are getting missed. Please turn on this feature!

Newbies of teams will absolutely miss the notifications without this function

This is still not a thing? No one in my organisation wants to use the "Teams" part of Teams because it's too cumbersome. You have to manually follow each channel yourself, it's unclear which channels you are following, and notifications in Teams channels aren't clear. Activity feed is terrible, you should be able to just see which channels have updated content like in Discord.

Let the Team Owner decide which channel is default set to "Follow this channel" for all members.

This is infuriating. We are moving back to Slack/Mattermost because of this one feature.

Dear Microsoft, we need this feature absolutely. A lots of communication is delayed because the team members do not notice new answers in channels or teams. Please help us, perhaps like in whats app, where you can set up the notifications by yourself. For example I can disable notifications for groups but enable notifications if I was mentioned in a team.
That would be awesome.
Cheers from Germany

Just want to ping this again - can one of the Moderators please reply with an update of the status of this request. Team's adoption is being affected adversely with this not being on by default.
At a minimum, as myself and others have suggested, can this please be controlled in a similar fashion as 'Make Favorite' upon channel creation?

it's a pain that the notification is not a default setting. The complaints that I always heard was 'I didn't get any notification that you posted something in our Teams'.
