Support for http and not only https
Only possible to use HTTPS urls as tabs. Would be nice if HTTP would work as well.
As you may be aware, HTTP is inherently less secure compared to HTTPS, and modern browsers are making it increasingly difficult to access http:// links; many of them require users to bypass an intermediate page with a scary security warning.
We take users privacy and security very seriously, and we also take popular UserVoice feature requests very seriously. We investigated many approaches to address this feature request in a way that would also pass security review. One way would have required tenant administrators to manually add domains/intranet sites to an “allow list”, – we received feedback that be unwieldy and add work for IT departments.
Even if that were acceptable however, we’d have a situation that http:// URLs would only ever work on the desktop client. Users who clicked on the tab using the browser client would see the same scary warning that users accessing the same URL in a browser tab would see.
Given these limitations, we are no longer planning to deliver this feature request.

Even we need this feature. Could you please update us on the current status?
How's it going? There seems to be no update since 9th of September last year.
Http support is extremely necessary especially for internal URL, I just hope we'll have this soon.
Warren ~ no more update since 9 Sep. any bypass solution could use as we need to link up some internal link(non-https) in teams group for our colleague sharing!

Can I downvote this? Please work on other features.
@ Warren: can you pls provide a status update until when this very useful feature will become available?
Why is this taking so long to implement? This should be a real simple and easy change. http:// is still in use for many valid reasons, including internal development and support of old systems like equiopment with built-in web portals that are not going to be updated.
Need none https for internal web app
Vote for this too please. For internal websites
This sounds like a TERRIBLE idea, why is this even being considered?
Much needed for supporting internal web developments
This has my vote. Any update on when?
developing an internal website and we aren't using https yet. http is necessary and silly that it's not an option.

Just discovered this voting page - we need this option!!!
Crazy this is a problem in the first place, but even harder to believe there is no messaging regarding the true nature of the problem "That isn't a valid URL" is not only inaccurate, but also not helpful for fixing the problem.
It's been over half a year since an update was supposed to be mere weeks away. What's going on with this?

for better UX, maybe add a warning which should show till disabled permanently by either user or group policy.
It has been few months now. Do you have any update on this?

@Julian - In some aspect I do agree. But I just need http: for internal websites on a company intranet - Teams is also internal.

Definitely need that feature
Looking for same. Have internal sites for SSRS reports that I cannot add to tabs. Either way, time for an update.

This is a TERRIBLE idea! At a time when there is such a push to get everyone to use https everywhere in order to help keep people safe, we should not be encouraging the use of http.
There are only a very few reasons for only using http - the only valid one I can think of is in the IoT world where a device may have a web page but isn't powerful enough to handle https - but even that is rapidly disappearing.
