How can we make Microsoft Teams better?

More than 20 participants in a chat

We would like to use group chats for conversations that are not team/work related. However, the 20 participant limit keeps us from using the feature to it's full extent. Please increase the participant limit for group chats from 20 to 100.

This is done rolling out and you should all be able to use this function in your Teams now. Ping me at sparavi (at) Microsoft (dot) com if you have any questions!

Really keen to get this one... in many cases we are forced to create O365 groups when the only requirement is just to have conversations. Private channels could help with controlling the number of groups created as well but I think both features are needed.

Hello, our organization just migrated to MS365 tools from Google Suite last June. We are currently using Microsoft Teams for chats. One of our challenges is creating a group chat. We are 21 in the team and MS teams group chat allowed less than 20. You may consider also to update the number of participants in the group chat to at least 30. Thank you.

This needs to be added ASAP... if you have a team larger than 20 this is a deal breaker. Skype which is a free software has no issue with this.

This feature needs to be added, or Microsoft needs to download Slack and look at how they implement private channels! We need private channels that not everyone has access to for conversations involving sensitive data. This is possible within Slack. Chat with more than 20 people would also work in Teams, but doesn't exist. Why doesn't Microsoft care about security??

Unbelievable - why would you move it to the backlog? What other features were prioritised by the Product Owner? Looking at the below comments this makes no sense...

Hey Warren, we are testing out the Channels fall back, and while it is alleviated the limit of 20, it still is not a suitable replacement for a chat room that can fit a larger pool of users. Please take this comment as a vote of 200 folks, (though not 200 looking to share one chat room)

Hey MS, we are implementing teams at our company and we will be having team groups of upwards of 30 folks or so in chats. We really need at least this cap of 18-20 folks to be trimmed out and the ability to remove a participant from Chat is a critical feature that needs to be rolled out.

15 months since first report. Still no action, either on relaxing the limit or implementing private channels.

Since the private channel feature seems to be put on hold (for ever?) please use common sense and remove the artificial limitation on chat rooms. I have yet to read a good explanation on why the limitation was there in the first place. With 470 votes and very recent comments, this seems like a thing that really bothers users. For me, it renders Teams quite useless. #slack

This needs to be addressed asap. We are using whats app and viber to fill the current gap, within our team.

It would be fantastic for MS Teams to be a 1 stop shop... For us the capacity limit private chat function is the final piece of the puzzle.

Channels are not useable, people wont notice the conversation in their....please fix the limitation so we can move all conversation into chats.

  • Jo Vasev commented  ·   ·  Flag as inappropriate

Come on guys, this is a huge issue.... We are moving to team and this is just such a huge oversite. It makes chats unusable. Please Please Please fix this.

  • Anonymous commented  ·   ·  Flag as inappropriate

You need to fix this. Channels are made for conversations, not one single thread. Hence you have a lot of extra items like "reply to". This take up space. The notifications for channels are also bad compared to the ones we have in the chat, they don't tell you the content of the message, hence the user need to go into the channel to see what it was about... Seriously, we are moving from skype to Teams, you NEED to fix this. We don't have this problem on skype.

Seriously? What Bureauclown thought an artificial limit on chat was a good idea?
This seems like an easy fix too.

Even Apple just increased facetime to 32 users. At least they are using a proper binary number ;)
But seriously, why is there a limit at all, and if you feel the need for it, why is it not admin configurable?
