Proofing tools (spell check, theasaurus, autocorrect)
One of the defining features of office down the years has been the proofing tools (i.e. Spell checker, theasaurus, autocorrect, grammar checker). I would love to see these come to Teams.
The way I envisage this working is as I'm typing a message the famous red/blue/green squigglies that we've all become familiar with should show up.
Most of all I'd like autocorrect (i.e. a spelling correction that I've used previously automatically gets applied as I type). Stretch goal for this, have a single set of autocorrects that work across all of Office 365, including the client apps.
Some people might think that such tools would not be applicable to a lightweight tool such as this (I would disagree, but everyone is different) so perhaps there should be the ability to toggle proofing tools on and off.
It should work across all Teams clients (i.e. desktop/mobile/web).
I must admit I'm not a user of Teams yet (although soon will be - our org is turning it on soon) so for all I know some of these things already exist - I somehow suspect that they don't all exist yet though. Most of all though I'd like the autocorrect feature and the red squigglies.
Hi everyone, the engineer working on this item has left the company and we’re working on replacing him. I wanted to give you that heads up because the work has paused, which extends our shipping date.
I really appreciate your patience as we work to get this back to actively worked on.

For the right price they could always hire me ;)
This has been driving me crazy since starting to use Teams and today I had finally had enough that I had to go for a search. Can't believe honestly that Teams was rolled out without a most basic feature as this.
It Looks like they can't find any engineer because they are Looking since 2018 for one.

I am flabbergasted that a single engineer is assigned to this task. Where is your continuity process?

Disable spell check appears to be an option in the General Settings of teams now. If you scroll all the way to the bottom of General you will see a pre-checked box for "Enable spell check." It let me un-check. After a restart I am able to type without red squiggles on the words I'd usually see them (i.e. I've, you've, etc...)

Microsoft, do you still monitor the forums? If not, at least point us to the new location to get these ridiculous defects corrected.

Can you give an update on this Microsoft. Seems like the last Microsoft response was 2 years ago.
AUTO-CORRECT PLEASEEE. I think everyone has begun to rely upon time saving features and an autocorrect that capitalized your 'i's and makes sure your contractions have an apostrophe increases speed while still allowing you to appear professional. I cant tell you how obnoxious it is to write a sentence in teams chat and have to go back and re-write it.

Hello Everyone, I created a new voice since this is stale. This will need a new vote and admin assigned. Vote and comment on this one if you like.

This hasnt been responded to since 2018. This needs attention. @Suphatra, please get this up and running. The use of having proofing tools like this in Teams is immediate. Many of my users rely on this.

Please fix the autocorrect or better yet, use my Office 365 dictionary and auto corrections for TEAMS!

Is this still being worked on? Last admin update was late 2018...
Why is there no feedback?????
Microsoft, please give a feedback here
When will be be able to edit the Microsoft Teams dictionary???
Roger Seekell commented
In the Windows client, we need add to dictionary and ignore, as in other Office products.
My gosh! Being able to add words to the dictionary would be such a simple programming addition in TEAMS and it is hard to believe it is still not available - what is going on MS?
Please don't make excuses, make good!
I just followed this post "https://techcommunity.microsoft.com/t5/microsoft-teams/turn-off-spell-checking-in-teams/td-p/1252026" to disable the spell check since it gets words wrong and won't let me add words.

Unbelievable that the product has been shipped without the capability to add words to the dictionary on the fly and edit the dictionary separately to remove words no longer required...!
And Microsoft haven't been able to find or recruit an engineer capable to doing this in the last 18 months???
Don't need to heavy-weight grammar stuff, but a simple non-English spell-check would suffice. It is convenient to replace typos by right mouse-click.
This is SO basic and already 3+ years old!
Red squiggles under contractions is beta testing territory sort of stuff!
