Proofing tools (spell check, theasaurus, autocorrect)
One of the defining features of office down the years has been the proofing tools (i.e. Spell checker, theasaurus, autocorrect, grammar checker). I would love to see these come to Teams.
The way I envisage this working is as I'm typing a message the famous red/blue/green squigglies that we've all become familiar with should show up.
Most of all I'd like autocorrect (i.e. a spelling correction that I've used previously automatically gets applied as I type). Stretch goal for this, have a single set of autocorrects that work across all of Office 365, including the client apps.
Some people might think that such tools would not be applicable to a lightweight tool such as this (I would disagree, but everyone is different) so perhaps there should be the ability to toggle proofing tools on and off.
It should work across all Teams clients (i.e. desktop/mobile/web).
I must admit I'm not a user of Teams yet (although soon will be - our org is turning it on soon) so for all I know some of these things already exist - I somehow suspect that they don't all exist yet though. Most of all though I'd like the autocorrect feature and the red squigglies.
Hi everyone, the engineer working on this item has left the company and we’re working on replacing him. I wanted to give you that heads up because the work has paused, which extends our shipping date.
I really appreciate your patience as we work to get this back to actively worked on.

Please make this optional and disabled by default, it's so obnoxious.
I am currently using Grammarly to check my work. Would prefer one dictionary for all Office265

We NEED to "Add to Dictionary" for company and industry terms that it displays as incorrect, asap. This was an incredibly short-sighted view to not have included it from the start. C- grade on this one Microsoft.

Integration with Grammarly is a great option

This gets my vote! Thanks for jumping on this one, Suphatra!

Again, Can I vote every time I get a word flagged as wrong by TEAMS is not wrong. So many corporate words, project names, company names, peoples names. So used to being able to "Add to dictionary"
come on guys, let's do this! Why does Teams not use my default Office dictionary?

Two years and you can't add this basic feature? Why on Earth does Team use a different dictionary than the rest of Office?
Brian Grimshaw commented
Definitely need this
Why just auto-correct for Office programs? Why not for Windows? Mac has this and it auto-disables for apps where it would be a hindrance e.g. anything where programming is involved

Autocorrect is most important to me personally. Almost 2 years waiting for this feature.

Been a while since you guys have updated this one. Any luck finding a new engineer to work on this?
Has Microsoft found an engineer to work on this yet? "Working on it" from 2018... We really need this feature... just not as pro as all of the other office 365 apps...
The spelling checker in MS Teams is broken. In MS Teams but NOT in MS Word, various words such as "I've" and "we've" are incorrectly marked as spelling mistakes. MS Word recognizes these words correctly, whereas Teams doesn't. These are informal words but they're not spelling mistakes. These words are appropriate for use in chat because chat is often informal.
MS Teams constantly embarrasses me in front of my colleagues :-( I'd like to continue using MS Teams but my colleagues point out multiple embarrassing defects in MS Teams, again and again and again. I try to tell my colleagues that we should continue using MS Teams, but I'm totally embarrassed by the way that Teams can't even do the spelling checker properly, and various other embarrassing bugs. It's totally ridiculous that the words "I've", "we've", etc are marked as spelling mistakes. Also, MS Teams ignores the custom dictionary words that I added via MS Office products such as MS Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.
PLEASE HELP!! Please fix the problems in MS Teams. Please stop embarrassing me in front of my colleagues. If this ongoing embarrassment saga doesn't end sometime soon, I'll be forced to switch my recommendation to the Slack service instead of MS Teams.
(My computer's culture is set to US-English, and I'm using Windows 10 Pro and the Windows desktop version of MS Teams.)
There are so many ideas posted on this topic- they all should be merged and all the votes added to this idea - there should be thousands more by then.
This request is clearly a priority for most people who use Teams. It really needs to share the same dictionaries that the rest of Microsoft 365 apps should share.
I like having spell check, but I'd really like a spell check that let's me add words.
The word "I've" is marked as incorrect, and it wants to replace it with literally the same word/spelling, which is marked as incorrect.

I see that feature was planned to be released in June 2020:
Was the release delayed?
Language / grammar - Teams attempts to correct the contraction I've. Still. This is in the application. "I've" is a valid contraction. This should be fixed.
Please have this feature included asap. Driving everyone up the wall
You rolled out a flagship new Office productivity app without a critical feature that has been part of Office since the 90s and it's held up in Teams because one guy quit? It just gets funnier & funnier around here...
