Open in Word/Excel/PowerPoint as Default
It would be great if Teams would have the ability to always launch the desktop app when opening Office documents as opposed to launching the online version.
Rest of teams is awesome.
Thank you for your feedback. We’re happy to announce this is now available to users who opt into Public Preview.
You can learn more about the Microsoft Teams Public Preview program here: https://aka.ms/TeamsPublicPreview, and Teams administrators can find documentation to manage which users will see the Public Preview option here: https://aka.ms/TeamsPublicPreviewAdmin
This would really help us, please fix.

A common request within our organisation. Please fix this.
It is painful to waste so much time clicking through all those choices and screens, only to have the document locked because you're busy editing online when you don't even want it to open online in the first place.

Would be great to hacve the capability to heve the choice of application or Web.
From my Customers point of view, first they use the web and if there are some big change to do, they use the application.
Very frustrating. Please fix this.

Very frustrating. Request that teams links should open in the desktop app if the user has the desktop app.
Andrew Taylor commented
very very annoying and confusing for our team
Microsoft, this type of user experience is important to our users and would save us (the folks in IT) a lot of embarrassment explaining that this is how it's designed. Users don't want to open things in the web version if they have the application installed. Ever. Please note this across all of Office 365 sharing and collaboration.

This should definitely be a user-configurable setting.

Open files (powerpoint, excel, ...) on desktop by default instead of within Powerpoint Online in Teams, or at least be able to configure the default method for opening.

Whenever user receive links to MSFT Teams resources in email on my Outlook desktop client, it launches a browser (Chrome) window instead of the Teams app that is installed on user's desktop. The browser window then refuses to load the actual Teams resource/site. How do end user force all Teams links to open in MSFT Teams desktop application?.
Definitely would like to see this implemented!

The option to open documents directly in the desktop app would be extremely helpful! Thank you for looking into this for us, Suphatra.

Very surprised that this works this way. Please fix!

Yes please. I've seen so many people curse at this behaviour. I'll trying to make them like and use teams. And the lack of this option isn't helping.

Agreed - this needs to be fixed.

Just came across this today - I sometimes really do wonder who is doing the user experience testing at MS? Another embarrassing position for us to go to our business users and explain - yeah its been designed that way.
Oh well - my vote to have it fixed ... please ... someday ...
