Increase duration for desktop notifications
The channel/team on which the notification has been made should stay more/better/longer visible so that you won't miss one.
Once support for Windows 10 native notifications is released, users who choose to use Windows notifications will be able to utilize Windows OS specific settings for the length of time to display notifications. Mac does not have an OS specific setting, so will not have the support.

Not saying this is a solution, but for those not aware the pop-up duration is controlled by HKCU\Control Panel\Accessibility\MessageDuration, which can be set by GPO Preferences.
Obviously this is only going to buy you a bit of time for people still at their PCs, its not going to help when people are AFK, and it affects all of these pop ups - Outlook, etc, that you may use. But it's eased things here a bit, setting this to 60 seconds.
If people are not responding to a message due to this issue. Then people will try a different method, and then eventual give up sending messages on MS Teams. It's in MS best interest to fix this ASAP.
Seems People on Mac do not notice messages. Both Windows and Mac need a pop up reminder of unread messages on by default which happens every 2 hours, during business hours. Maybe the reminder sits on the screen until a key is pressed or a mouse is moved to indicate the person is in front of the screen.

We are in the process of switching to Teams from Skype and this is the biggest hurdle. It's not a major change to the application and is a very common complaint among my colleagues.
I'm a toolbar hider. With Skype, the toolbar would persist and I would see the incoming chat. With Teams, if I don't see the brief toast pop-up or hear the sound (or my audio is muted) I often go a long time without noticing someone is trying to get my attention.

Echo this as a real problem, as Skype for Biz does not behave this way. I can tailor SfB on Mac or PC to persist as a desktop notification, but Team's lack of native notification integration ensures this isn't possible (and sucks).

I am blown away at how much better slack is in every regard: User interface (on Windows, Linux, and Mac), easy to use web client if you don't want to install something, or on a friends computer and can't, easy drag-and-drop of files that never disappear or get in your way while you are typing a message, and just general usability of the app.
Note: They are basically the same app, just one is really really bad.
And nothing is more true than when it comes to notifications. Examples:
1. I would never want to receive and email (ever; did you see I said ever?) as a notification from Teams. That completely defeats the purpose. It should be impossible to do. You can't get there from here.
2. Integration into Windows new notifications may be good for some people, but I hate them. They are super intrusive, not-configurable, and always land right on top of something I need to click.
3. I have no way to squelch channels. I don't care if the sky is falling, I don't want to be notified for that channel. In Slack, I can squelch, and I will see that it is bold in the channel list, indicating to me that there has been activity.
4. There are certain channels that I should always be notified about activity in, unless I am not working. So, it needs to know my business hours. If someone needs me, they need to @mention me, or @channel to get everyone's attention. This will even notify me when I am not working. Because of this, when the person enters the @mention, or @channel, it checks if people are not working, and if they are not, it say "are you sure you want to push the notification while they are away from their desk?", and if you say yes, it sends a notification. And, there is no way to block it, except, see #5. Otherwise, it just puts the message in the channel.
5. I can turn or either @channel or @mentions on a particular channel. If I have a channel where people may abuse this, we can turn it off to disallow it. They can still type it, and it still appears as the special channel name or mention name, but no notification is sent.
6. There is not configurable way to make sure I never miss an important message, and never get a notification that stops or interrupts me from an unimportant one.
7. Different channels are used for different things. When my team and I communicate, its important to make sure we use our communication paths in a way that is always on, so I don't miss anything. But, I can trust my teammates to not spam me. In more public forums, I might just be interested, but I will look at them when I have a free minute. I don't ever want them to notify me. But, I want to see if there has been activity. (bold channel name) But because of team organization, the chat/people are on one tab, and the teams are on another. So, I can't scan at a glance and see where the activity has been. I have to click things. That is way too much work.
Regarding the UI, this thing is huge and takes tons if clunky miss used space. There is no way to get a simple small IM type view that is out of the way except when I am using it.
It seems very slow and sluggish, especially when using files.
There is not way to completely opt out of phone. I don't make phone calls on my computer ever. I don't receive phone calls on my computer ever. So, now I get ROBO dialed on my computer and the only opt-out is to turn Teams off.
I could go on and on...
I hope they fix this, because I really want to like Teams. But right now, it is really a very unfriendly experience.

Indeed this is ridiculous - Having just come back from a few days holiday I had over 50 notifications (which is normal and am fine with that) but the fact notifications become "read" as I hover over them, or jumping to notifications in different parts of the list makes others "read" means it is extremely easy to miss notifications and I have missed several that were important. Even marking them as "unread" to come back to later does not work, because the same thing happens when you come back. At the very least there should be an option to "not mark as read unless clicked on"

Why is it that I never get any notification of the first message I receive after starting my computer? I have Teams autostart and stay open and my notifications are all enabled yet the 1st message of the day I get zero alert. Once I bring Teams up in my UI and then minimize or close THEN I'll start getting notifications. I want an icon on my toolbar that blinks anytime someone sends me a chat msg and keep it blinking until I open it.
My question is why doesn't Microsoft's own product integrate with the inbuilt notifications in Windows 10? Hardly a glowing endorsement...
Would be good at least to show the count of missed/unread messages. The highlighted titel as an indicator is not obvious also on the app icon would be good to display the total count (ofcourse up to a point as number 1000 is overkill so like 99+ if someone is that popular) vs just an indicator that there is something.
Emails and skype did this type of feature best so just use the same thing, or at least make it a feature that can be enabled/disapled in the layout/theme settings area
When sending a new proposed time on a meeting that is scheduled through MS Teams it sends the notification to the team name instead of the person who organized the meeting. No one is getting the notification that the meeting needs to change. Can the organizer be the team member creating the meeting instead of the project? We are looking at switching from Skype to MS Teams and we have 30,000 + people.
There are many channels in my company. I picked up some channels to follow but still often missing notifications. I am not sure if this is a bug.
Its 2019 and this is still a major issue with MS Teams. Please add more robust and clear to see notifications. If you need an example look at any other chat/group app ever made. Please!
The setting for 'Missed activity emails' in Notifications, Win app, keeps resetting to 'As soon as possible', each time a new update is received. If I set it once it should stick.

The most salient feature of a communications app is not missing notifications. If people wanted to poll for messages they will use email. I miss slack, but I guess you sold it to the CIO so that all that matters. Perhaps you have designed yourself in a corner and can't support it.
Is there any update on this? My company was just forced onto Teams from Skype for Business; we used SuperToast and now we're missing notifications because 1) it doesn't stay on the screen long enough and 2) we all have multiple monitors and don't see it when it's not on the monitor we are looking at. More customization options like SuperToast would be great.
Maybe Microsoft can buy SuperToast so that Teams is better.
this needs to be fixed as soon as or otherwise we will have to find another messaging platform.
