Increase duration for desktop notifications
The channel/team on which the notification has been made should stay more/better/longer visible so that you won't miss one.
With the rollout of support for native Windows 10 OS native notifications, you are able to increase banner duration from 5 seconds all the way to 5 minutes. To learn more, please visit https://support.microsoft.com/office/change-your-notifications-style-in-teams-0da93820-93d0-4da3-86b6-fc28d19908e3 and https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/make-windows-easier-to-hear-9c18cfdc-63be-2d47-0f4f-5b00facfd2e1.
Native Mac notifications are in the process of rolling out, and once you have that build, you can also do the same for Mac notifications. (see https://microsoftteams.uservoice.com/forums/555103-public/suggestions/17679433-persistent-notification)

Every time the mobile app updates, you don't get any notifications until you open the app so it can complete an update!
we have just been "upgraded" from Skype for Business to teams and this is a serious issue for us, notifications just "disappear" and then messages are lost, please help with this urgently

This is not a "feature request" - This is a BUG!! and one that gets more serious the longer and more you use teams. My organisation now uses Teams extensively and I have been pushing for people to replace emails with conversations, but when the simple act of having the "Notifications" tab open marks all notifications as "read" this is becoming a major issue and people are missing important conversations. I had one day off yesterday and came back to 14 Notifications. I switch to the tab to start working through them, manage 2 before I get called to a meeting, come back and all the notifications are now marked as "read". Additionally setting notifications as "unread" does not stick, for the same reason as above. Simply having the notifications tab open for a period of time sets all notifications back to "read"
My team frequently misses messages while switching between the "Chat" and "Teams" tabs - it seems like it would be really easy to give some visual indication when there's a message on the other tab, and even a change in the taskbar icon (message count or even just a different color) for when the app is minimized.
Since timeliness of responses is really important, it winds up really damaging the effectiveness of the app.

What about a system tray icon? Nothing I do can stop the OneNote system tray icon that I don't want to see, but Teams doesn't even have one? The only thing consistent about Microsoft UI standards is that Microsoft never follows them.

I want to have the option for Teams on the taskbar to flash and continue flashing until I select it when there are new message. I need this option.
Unread counts on the chat and teams icons, and at every level below in both the 'Recent' and 'Contacts' lists.
This is BASIC stuff that should not have been missed before the product was released.
Keith Jones' comment is right on. I do not want notifications to disappear until I dismiss them! Our group is about the dismiss teams because of the timeliness of response.
Keith Jones commented
All we need is an option to change the timeout of when notifications disappear, with "Never" being a choice. Presumably capable of being x'd out. I have people in our org who are moving _away_ from Teams because they insist on an IM client that has something in their face until they dismiss it.

Too many times I miss the banner and don't realize there is a person attempting to converse with em. I hid the doc to save real estate. Allowing the icon to bounce will draw my attention and help me respond more timely.

Notifications in general are poor. I'd like to see (on the Mac client);
- An unread counter in the taskbar icon
- Don't hide channels where there are unread messages
- Per team and per channel customisation
- Why are we reliant on email notifications? The reason for Slack/Teams/WxT is to reduce email
It would be great if the Mac version would use the built in notifications, thus allowing personalization of settings. For example, allowing a user to choose Banner (which goes away on its own) or alert that stay on screen until dismissed. Additionally, this would allow users to use do not disturb to turn off notifications while presenting.

Request 2017... and nothing.. come on microsoft. Work on your Notification

Make notifications more pervasive. People use Viber and Facebook Messenger more because these apps makes a distinct notification whether on mobile or PC and they're pretty much hard to miss (ie. chat heads, banners, etc.). I find that me and my co-workers keep missing notifications in Teams during chat and other changes in the channels, despite turning ON notifications for everything.

Agree its hard to capture notification on a chat while using the dark skin more over bolding the text is not enough. What avbout having someting similar to what software developers are having with their text editor some hint or decorator on the scroll bar or something similar as in Outlook
The pop up notification in Windows needs to stay up longer. Like Skype for Business. Teams "chat" lacks in this respect.
It would be much better if the activity feed were always visible. If you split the feed section in two, always have activity on top, and then have your current activity (like chat) on the bottom, that would help immensely. I think most people are having the same issue of missing activity in a team while they're 'chatting'.

Part of the missing notifications : Newly added channels should be followed by default
It is far too easy to miss notifications in Teams on the Windows 10 desktop -- as mentioned in all the comments in this thread. This is the primary reason we have not deployed Teams throughout the organization.

Dont know if this was mentioned already or not but when you are selected on a chat in the web client you will not get notifications at all from that channel/chat session. This is horrible... Also why can i not set notifications for individual channels within a team? The fact that i cant set notification settings on a per channel basis is utter **** and lazy coding.

I'm missing so many notification! From Teams switching to busy mode alone (I want an always "Available" mode no matter what) to Teams just not showing any notifications at all.
C'mon Microsoft! This app got a lot of potential, but the lack of notification is flagrant.
