Make it possible to remove and/or rename the default tabs (files & notes)
It would be really great if we would be able to remove / rename the default tabs. A lot of times files / notes are too generic names for the tabs, so renaming would be really helpful then. :-)
I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but this feature request has been declined.

I agree that it needs to be reopened. I rearranged my OneNote sections and now I have a tab for Notes that is a dead link. I'd just like to remove the tab or make it optional. But to require it to appear on each channel is a little too pushy.

This needs to be re-opened. Having a Staff Notebook/Notes makes sense in some situations, but why is it mandated for every team?
I now have teams in use with about 100 people, and the number one question/request I get BY FAR is "How do we remove the Staff Notebook tab"?
Think about that for a second. I rolled out a new way of working, a new paradigm for collaborative working, and I have many times more questions about this than everything else put together!

The default onenote tab is broken for my one of my teams created when Teams used to create a new section in an Office 365 Group's OneNote notebook (I deleted the section). What should I do about this? I have a broken tab that I cannot get rid of.
One of the first things I tried to do was remove/rename the default tabs. I'm guess this is the case for many customers... Common Microsoft, listen to your customers.
We want to use existing SharePoint areas not the teams area in sharepoint as its hard to share the files with people outside the team.
Why was this declined? And how is it that some people are getting Notes as a default tab? We get Wiki which I would also love to have go away as a default - but at least I can delete that tab. Our defaults we can't remove or rename are conversations and files
Not be able to remove tabs is for us the reason for not using teams for learning content. Huge mistake by MicroSoft...

Still same status?
We also need to remove the files tab, can you please explain the logic of not allowing users to do so? Being able to hide it is good enough from my perspective. Currently if we want to direct our users to another sharepoint location they will still end up looking at the first Files tab however smart descriptions we have on the other Sharepoint tab...
Warren you need to be fired. This files tab is the main problem I have using your teams, which seems to be pretty good. I'm going to a conference next week and talk to Microsoft about firing you. All these comments and your declining this request. You must have never used SharePoint and know nothing of meta data. Folders are BAD. YOU PREACHED THIS FOR YEARS. YOU MAKE A NON MOVEABLE FOLDER AND NO ABILITY TO USE IT WITH VIEWS. YOU PUT A BUNCH OF FILES IN IT AND ITS A MESS. THEN YOU NEED MORE FOLDERS. BUDDY YOUR FIRED.

This seems odd - can you help us understand why MS declined the ability to rename the general tab?
Please give the opportunity to remove or hide defaults tabs. They can generate confusion to the team if the team site is another and old SharePoint.
Yeah this is a ridiculous decision. The early OneNote tabs didn't have the ability to add Sections. Now I can add new OneNote notebooks that have multiple tabs, or even attach existing OneNote notebooks, but this old immovable tab I can't get rid of! This is terrible customer/product support and sure does reduce the incentive to use Teams if this is the kind of support we'd expect.
It can easily get cramped with all the possible tabs, wasting space is not a good idea. If removing is not allowed hiding or moving would be better than nothing.

We'll that's nice....NOT. So the first two tabs (Files and OneNote) will always be taken up for options I don't (always) need. And also why can't we have a feature to get rid of the OneNote tab when new channels don't have it by default anyway. Even a hack to get rid of the tab would be fine. I would hate to need to drop all my "legacy" channels and recreate them just to get rid of a silly unwanted tab

Can we at least move the tabs to other than the 1st two positions? - I never use them

Any Explanation or justification for why this was declined?
During team setup ask for a SharePoint site to use for files and other required teams back sharepoint repositories, then prompt for the files tab document library name.
Provide a migration interface to move existing teams-required lists/libraries to another sharepoint site

Please implement this option, confuses users when they will load the content.
This is never going to happen, unfortunately.
Please, provide a status!
