Teams uses 600MB and is super slow!
Quotes from various users about memory usage and slow performance:
"Team is a memory hog! 100s MB! Slack is about 50."
"The memory consumption is over 300MB!!! This should be a priority."
"Just started evaluating teams, 500+ MB and 10-15% CPU. This is in a citrix VDI. Does teams use hardware rendering? If so is there a way to turn it off? I had to do this with the rest of Office."
"I dont understand why my Teams application only uses 70MB when other people in my organization are towards half a gig! What is causing this Teams?"
"Make it less CPU heavy, 20% CPU on switch tabs? Really?"
"See attached picture."
Great performance and user experience remain a topmost priority for us. Application launch time has seen improvements in the recent build. We will continue making improvements across the product including channel to chat switching and overall resource consumption.
In my Laptop (Lenovo T490) is consuming more than 1.5G. If you hide some chats and leave older meetings you can reduce a bit the memory consumption. I've attached a snapshot of the task manager showing my top 4 processes and 2 Chrome instances with 43 tabs opened, consume less than Teams
Calls on Teams regularly remain live and use resources after they are ended, this certainly contributes, while only being one of the factors.
While they work on this item, I suggest you to use the online version of this app. It moves a lot faster and it basically has the same functions.
Was searching for similar topics so I won't make one if already exists.
Teams Memory management is currently one of the worse I've seen on an app for years.
It eats in general 500MB memory. Many times it goes up to 700-800MB. And the worse part is that it eats this much of ram WHEN IDLE in systray!
It neets to release ram more rapidly and more often. Please start working on this asap, because:
-Unreasonable to have as much of ram usage as e.g. 10-20 chrome browser tabs that are using modules, applications, special addons
-If you want people to start moving over to teams, consider low perforing computers, with 4GB or ram. They run out of ram! Heck I ran out of ram on occasions with my Surface Book 2, and I got 8GB and I'm an IT geek who knows how to clean ram and minimize app usage!
This is very critical issue. I hope you consider this as high importance and either already working on it or putting it onto your top on your todo list.
My install uses easily >1000MB RAM/memory. I have 32GB RAM, so it runs ok, but this is ridiculously inefficient... and most people don't have the extra RAM to spare this much on Teams.

Teams runs on Electron which uses CHROME as the wrapper for the web app. The version of Electron they are compiling with is using Chromium v69 ... they need to update this ASAP. I've created another user voice topic for this:

Teams attempts to write to address 0x0, which is illegal. Crashes on logon screen after a few days of work/standby. Please fix this bug. 8GB, 16GB RAM PCs.
Major issue for us and we are a small organsiation. Laptops become unusable while not even using teams
Microsoft Teams is such a resource hog. So far it uses a maximum of 1.3GB of RAM and definitely made my system slow. Closing out Teams made my system faster again. Why is it programmed to eat a lot of RAM and CPU time. Something's wrong Microsoft and this has to be fixed ASAP. A lot of a people are working from home and using Teams to create or join meetings. This issue greatly impacts productivity.

Excessive memory usage costs a few kilowatts of energy for each Teams user. Scale up that usage by X million users and Teams is harming the environment by wasted electricity.
Slim down the memory used, save electricity.
Want to be green, my company wants to be green, using bloated applications is not green.

Mine routinely uses 800mb or more with it just idling. How can it be using that much just sitting there waiting to be used? I need it for work, but it slows my machine down significantly.

This MUST be fixed. Disgusting use of system resources. Am afraid my SL3 will melt...
Please fix this performance issue, it's a mess. Surface Books and Laptops can't handle teams with video calls!
It seems like there is little progress on this. We're trying to implement teams on a WVD farm, but Teams alone makes our Azure VM Sizes need almost the double resources. I'm about to tell our customers that they won't have access to Teams on their WVD instances. That can't be the right way to go...
Please respond Microsoft, it has been 6 months since the last one and the last response was "performance is a priority for us" without any concrete statement on what is being done.
What is being done to reduce the memory usage for Teams?
What is the development timetable for the memory usage reduction to be delivered to Teams customers?
With no answers and no commitment from Microsoft on this issues, the conclusion is that it will not be fixed and will not be addressed in the next year.
We'll evaluate replacement products for Teams.
certainly needs some work done here, my app seems to lag a few hours after I first open it, a restart seems to fix temporarily, but it's not a long term solution. Teams is becoming so critical now to our business, so the App is got to be perfect.

My Teams is currently running at 750MB and I'm not actively using it, it's just running in the background. This is more than all other applications combined (Chrome 6 tabs / Excel / Outlook / SSMS). We find Teams very useful but for goodness sake please fix this Microsoft!
Teams Consumes lot of Resources from PC, We need a fix ASAP. Thanks.
This app takes up to 5 minutes to simply load. Once loaded it works but it often exceeds 100 CPU. Needs a serious fix.
in 2020 and we don't have the solution
