Notification for Planner Tasks
Planner and Teams just needs a notification - when a task has been created for an assigned user that user should receive a notification - currently we are doing a work around by starting a conversation with a mention of a member name
This is currently in internal testing rings at Microsoft, and the feature team is targeting a release to the public in early Q2.

In my team we currently use Planner to manage newhire onboardings, we have a parent task for each newhire, with many subtasks assigned to multiple members of the team. The problem is whenever someone finish the task and tick his/her respective tasks, this action is not logged nor any notification is triggered, so in a busy team, no one else will know what's the status until he/she personally checks the subtasks.

I accept there are numerous who feel a similar fulfillment as I read this article! I trust you will keep on having such articles to impart to everybody.
Any update on this? We really need task notification in outlook!!
Any progress so far?
Currently our work-around is to also add the person which only needs the "completed" or "everdue-notification" as owner of the Task which spams the number of open tasks for team-leaders.

What happened to this? Email still seems to be the only mechanism for Planner notifications. Integration between Teams and Planner remains weak. I'd also love to see the excellent Chat/Post feature in Teams used in Planner for Description and Comments, so we can paste images, use rich text, and edit/delete comments. Please better and more tightly integration Teams and Planner.

Will the improvements include being able to @ someone in the comment line of a task?
Im a bit confused. What I want is notifications sent to anybody added on a task whenever a comment/new message is posted on teh task Lotherwise nobody has any clue when there is any update.
Now reading the comments here I see some people describe they want notificagtions on new comments turned off. And others post the same hing as me, they want notifications on new messages sent to everyone on tha task.
So I have no idea is this possible yet or not?

I have to check everyday if someone completed their subtasks inside the main Task....
I have no idea why it is so difficult to put a bell or rss feed Option in the top of the Task... my god!
Can we have some updates on this?
We would like the option (even the default setting) of Task Comments only notifying the creator of the task and the Assignee(s) of the task. More people could be manually tagged if desired. We currently avoid using Comments in Tasks since the entire team gets notified.

Thanks for working on this! I appreciate having some kind of notification for new Task assignments/new comments/etc.
However, one issue I'm having is that I get email notifications for my own comments on Tasks. This is an unnecessary notification to me, and I have no way to turn this off. Could the feature team consider giving users the ability to turn off email (or any other) notifications for their own Task comments?

I appreciate that you can now get notified when a task is assigned to you. That will make Plannar much more usable for us within teams. However I was disappointed that I did not receive notifications for comments on tasks I am assigned to or responses to comments that I made on tasks. We would really like to be able to have discussions about specific tasks on the tasks themselves, but it is really hard to do so when no-one is notified about responses.

Thanks for implementing this, this is something we need and we eagerly await the Q2 release :-)
I find that notifications get sent out via email for internal email addresses but notifications do not get issued for external email addresses.
When setting up Planner tasks, can I create notification/reminders for the due dates that are reflected in outlook 365? Assuming the task is assigned to a person inside or outside of the organization, the assignee will be able to receive an email and calendar notice on the due date or when the task is completed? Thanks.
Does this task only cover notifications for assigning new tasks? hat about the day a task is due? Or notifications of comments on a task? Or the ability to tag people in task comments?
