Let me @ Mention the user's first name instead of their DisplayName
Hi,
When mentioning someone with @, is it possible to use the user alias instead of the Display Name? In Slack for example, it is possible to choose whether to display the full name or the user name when being mentioned. Could be great to have it on MS Teams because it is shorter in messages where many mentions are provided.

Wow... not the experience I was expecting. I feel like I'm talking to an automaton, Smith, Bob.

Or the name just appears as "firstname (guest)"

Want a MentionSetting Option that allows to use full name or only first name when using Mention of a Team member.

I agree. It would be great if each use could set their name to be whatever they wanted while also keeping the traditional formal name from AD. Perhaps a user settable NickName option would be great. You could @mention either NickName or FormalName.

This most certainly needs to happen. lname, fname is convenient for mail recipient lists and other functions, but when in dialog it is awful.

We have had our users asking for a different shortname or alias for mentions as well. The specific feedback was to show "Firstname Lastname" instead of "Lastname, Firstname"

We need the option to customize the display name when user mouses hover user's initials/avatar in order to display additional information such as user's alias.

Should be SSO not SSP

Currently for Enterprise SSP users, display name appears as it is configured in Active Directory (ex LastName, First) -- would be great to have the ability to customize via options or settings whether names appear as LastName, First / FirstName Last / FirstName L. etc. as preferred by the end user.

When I @Smith, Bob I need to go back to delete the last name so I don't look like an idiot. The conversations should be conversational and default to a name we would actually use.

It would be great for the user to be able to declare a type of 'short name' to be used in chat mentions instead of the full name.

This has already been implemented. After completing an @ mention you see both first and surname. If you tap backspace after the completion the surname will dissapear and only the firstname is visible in the @mention.

I agree, it would be nice to shorten names. So if your teammate's name is Michael Sandusky but the team is small it would be nice to have it show up as @Mike.

I agree with the other comments that we should be able to use first name only or nicknames - Last, First is really stuffy for what's supposed to be an informal chat space.

I was about to propose this and am glad to see David that you've already suggested it a while back. I'm hoping it gets more votes because nicknames are a must if you have a huge display name (with department names for example). Nicknames would definitely make it more informal and relaxed.

You can use tab completion. But I see that it's a problem if there's a lot of people with the same name or same first letter of the name... But maybe it helps a little.

When you mention a @person in a message would it be possible to have only the first name without the surname? I tis a bit annoying that you have the full name of the peson. Usually you do not do that.
Thank you! -

Personalizable / configurable to change the name display - first name last name or first name only or AKA name to make it cool and less formal

When using @mentions, the name from active directory is automatically inserted. Our AD is set up "last name, first name" so @mike becomes "Smith, Michael." You can delete either name but you cannot rewrite michael to mike. I think @mentions with nicknames would make the chat more informal and relaxed.
