Backup, export, printing, archive options
Can Teams chat and activities data be exported, printed, archived, and backed up/restored? Within Sharepoint or elsewhere? This could be necessary for a few reasons both during projects and for historical records.

still under review?
I can't believe that there is no easy means to export a conversation. Even copying and pasting isn't possible for a long conversation. I very much liked Skype for Business ability to save conversations to Outlook. We have users who we are migrating to teams who are losing functionality.
Lets have it
My organization is transitioning from Skype to Microsoft Teams and the fact that I have a record of my Skype conversations automatically routed to Outlook, but cannot configure MS Teams to do the same is a major factor that keeps me from using MS Teams. Right now, a member of our Legal Department is trying to figure out how to save a chat from MS Teams, and telling him - to quote your website - that "it is not feasible... to achieve this right now" is not acceptable.
Also, frankly, highlighting a string of messages in a chat to copy and paste into Word is not as simple as it sounds - the pasted thread includes extraneous non-chat command-related information.
Please reconsider your decision to opt out of enabling users to download their chats at their discretion, if it is not possible to receive an email copy of each chat.

this would be a great improvement. We use group chat to investigate issues remotely. being able to export the chat with all files, screenshots, chat log is a great way to archive information off

This would be a great enhancement! We recently had a group Chat around a support issue and were looking into saving/printing/zipping the history for records and future reference. Thanks!

This is a highly anticipated feature! We need to be able to export/archive conversations in Microsoft teams
Completely agree this is needed.
Has it been communicated as to the official reason these features (Backup, export, printing, archive) are not available?
If there's nothing official, then what are the top "theories" out there. I've poured over the forums back to 2016 and there seems to be a consensus that these features should have been part of the initial product (or at least part of the plan). However, I can't find any explanation as to why they weren't. The same is true for the response "under review" as seen in this thread. Other MS products like Lync, Skype, and OneNote all have these features built in. I haven't found any online chat applications that didn't have the option to save/export built right in (including Microsoft.com tech support).
so, in short MS... "What gives?"
Agree with adding this capability.
I tried highlighting the conversations required and "copy" to a document, or do Ctrl-C then paste, but these fail.
100% agree - a method of exporting, saving, printing and recording chats is needed

agreed, the data must be stored for retention purpose so an api that would. provide acces and the ability to print and save is not to much to ask. I have a channel for it issues... where students can record screen shots. they can not put screen shots or images in a form to better understand the behavior. otherwise. I would use that.
Scrolling through the history of a chat is painfully slow. It would be nice if there were a way to mark a chat as wanting to download the entirety of it to a local PC. The search function is not always a practical replacement for this.
For all the functionality it has, I'm surprised there's no means to create a historical record. As an attorney, it's extremely important to prove the client was notified or involved in a particular discussion. For someone to say they weren't, which frequently happens if the case doesn't go their way, and me not have a record to CYA. That scares the **** out of me. I'd use this app much more if it had this functionality. Frankly surprised it wasn't already there from the beginning. Even more surprised it's gone this long without someone realizing it should have been there and isn't. Poor planning.
Waiting on print feature before we move to this software.

Not sure how this feature got missed in version 1. This issue alone has kept me on Skype for Business as long as possible.

Not having admin access over team chats is a huge liability. These are company-owned resources. Admins need to have access as oversight.
this will be very helpful to export chat from one to another teams.
IRL user story from today:
As a Software/Operations Engineer on support rotation,
I want to export the thread where my team coordinated to resolve an issue,
so that I can attach it to the ticket in our issue tracking system for use in retrospectives.
Agreed. There needs to be a viable tool/process to harvest the knowledge within Conversations vs saving entire 'chat room'
