Skype integration (Consumer Federation)
It would be nice to integrate public Skype (not Skype for Business) into Teams. I am able to chat with Skype for business users within my organization but when working with external clients I still have to go back to public Skype. If I could even just simply chat and call with Skype users as well that would allow me to use Teams as my sole communication platform.
Please check “Teams/Skype Consumer chat and calling interop” on the public roadmap at microsoft.com/microsoft-365/roadmap?filters.. for updates.
This should be a no brainer. Does Microsoft not want us to use their products to communicate? When I am at home and need to communicate with others at work, this is necessary.

Since the migration to Microsoft Teams, HR department are always complaining with IT department because they can't do interviews with candidates that uses personal skype accounts.
Thank you for skype integration develop.
This is an absolutely REQUIRED feature. We have been using Skype for Business to talk with clients who are using normal Skype, if this ability is stripped from Teams, then this will thrash much of the usefulness of Teams for us.

Is there a realease date for the feature?
Our company is looking to get a proper communications setup,
but without this feature Teams is utterly useless.

Oddly I had managed to add external personal Skype users to my Teams account in the past and they're in my contacts list, but on adding any new ones using their skype email ID, it says it can't find them and then offers search externally but clicking on that just dismisses the option and does nothing. I'm the owner/admin of the 365 account, external options enabled and set to Island mode.
I have other SfB contacts in Teams, though I'm still unsure if I can just use Teams without needing SfB. The description says "Chats and calls can land in either client, so users must always run both clients.". I don't want SfB really, just Teams and communicate with everyone.
I'd go Teams Only mode, but...
"Users who are upgraded to Teams Only cannot communicate with users who are using Skype for Consumer."

How is this topic going?

@Alex, so glad to so MS working on this!!!! THANK YOU!!!!!
Not able to federate with Skype consumer was a no-go for moving to Teams and just made NO sense.
BUT, a big potential issue that I see when looking at the M365 roadmap for this. The roadmap item says that it will "Enable Teams and Skype for Consumers users to chat and make VoIP calls to each other". It says nothing about video (HUGE!!!!) or screen sharing (big, but secondary to no video). Is this intentional or is MS starting with chat/VoIP calls and then adding video (and screen sharing) later?
A couple of other questions:
1. Will this consumer federation include group (more than two Teams, Skype (consumer), S4B users) capability?
2. Will you please remember to allow the federation with Skype (consumer) users who's email address is NOT a Microsoft domain. An example of this is a Skype user with the Microsoft Account of firstname.lastname@example.org or email@example.com.

Enable Teams and Skype for Consumers users to chat and make VoIP calls to each other
Looking forward to this. Since O365 forced the change to Teams, we are left only able to communicate to internal colleagues, but not our customers who give us business.
This is coming in Q1 2020, finally!
Should we already put a request in to add screen share in 3 years?

What is the TAT for this super required feature. From last almost 2 years this is not done. Is a priority not attached to this.

I would like this feature supported too
I am hoping all skype for business features will roll out to Teams soon. I missed the feature where we can chat and call with other skype users. please make it available again as soon as possible. Thank you.
Unbelievable. We want one solution to chat and speak with regular /personal skype users. Now users won't adapt teams because this is one of the basic functions they need.

I find it astonishing that now that office 365 teams installations are now being rolled out with "Teams Only" coexistence mode by default and not allowed to be changed, that this feature is still some 6 months away from being rolled out. My mind is well and truly boggled!
I thought one of the great things about upgrading to Office 365 business would be easier collaboration with my customers. Now being told that I cannot now use skype for business leaves my customers unable to make contact with me unless I revert to using skype consumer!!!
Just started using this app but was not able to find out how to add external contacts for chat. Is this functionality avb?

This is absolutely a minimum requirement for us. We constantly make overseas voice calls to our customers and suppliers via Skype (NOT Skype for Business).
What is also frustrating is that searching for this feature gets muddled up with "Skype for Business" as searching for "Teams to Skype" keeps matching S4B.

@Alex : you posted 3 months ago that the Skype-Teams integration is 'officially planned'. Can you shed a light on when users can finally expect to see something then ?
I have business partners that have been lulled into starting to use Teams, have been 'kicked out' of their Skype, and have no means of communicating with their customers world wide via neither system.…
So we're back to good old landlines and mobiles...
