Embed Media
If you paste a link it should embed the media right in the chat (Gif, mp4, youtube, Vimeo, Soundcloud etc.)
The team has not made a decision on whether to move forward with this feature. We will update when we have new status to share.

This seems like a no brainer, why is this not done already? Slack and others have this obviously and it makes me eager to go back to Slack for sure.

Can change the name of this idea to embedded media player in chat and team channel conversations. Or in the description add that it should embed the media in channel conversations so that it actually plays in the same window rather than opening a browser window. I think more people would find and vote for this if these are added.

Please make this available... At least for Streams video being embedded on Teams Wiki pages.

Come on Microsoft, this is a functionality that everyone wants. Why is it taking so long to implement?

Being forced to go from slack to teams at work... this is really frustrating and I would not recommend it to anyone so far.

Even a link from Microsof Stream insered via the "stream" button in a conversation will show like a widgetn and when clicked, open in another windows
please add the "embed media" option/feature

Agreed! When I drop a Youtube URL into a chat and/or Team Convo, my expectation is that Teams will automatically convert that link into an embedded widget without additional effort on my part.

With the announcement at Ignite of live streaming in Teams, this functionality should be accompanied with it. Embedded media files should not only be supported in the Conversations screen, but also in OneNote tabs and SharePoint pages.

This is a disappointing missing feature for anyone transitioning from Slack. It's not unusual to want to share videos within a team, and needing to open another window and download it (even on mobile!) isn't a good experience.

Please add this function to Teams. It is a request that will help drive the adoption of Teams in my organization. It should also give the option of autoplay when you scroll to it.

It would vastly enhance the experience to be able to add images and videos to the conversation directly as opposed to links. If the move has already been uploaded to, why can't we just embed the video directly in conversations? This will help videos and other media stick out and simplify the process immensely.
Please make this easier for all of us. Thanks

We use Teams in an internal leadership development program. We record short videos using smartphones and store them directly in a channel's Files.
The problem is that the files can't be viewed directly in the Teams app.
They either have to be downloaded as a copy to the user's PC or phone and then viewed in a 3rd party program - or uploaded to YouTube or Stream and then linked up as a tab in the channel.
This is way too cumbersome.Video files (of a variety of formats) that are stored locally in a channel, should be directly playable within the Teams app, both the desktop and phone versions.

Not just paste a link, if upload the video file in Teams, it should embedded the video in the thread instead of show as file icon.

allowing team members to embed video directly into the chat room will definitely improve the communication and collaboration within the team, the team members can reply/comment/receive instant feedback right below the video, this will only make Microsoft Teams more lively that increase the interaction between peoples, I personally don't see any down side of implementing this feature into Microsoft Teams, the idea was suggested since year 2016 and counting..

Teams would be a whole lot more valuable if videos could play within the conversation tab. Can't believe this request started in 2016 with no progress.
