Integrate with MacOS notifications
Notifications built into the OS (which all apps I've seen use other than Outlook and now Teams) are more functional and allow for more user control. Most importantly, they honor Do Not Disturb settings, which is critical.
We are getting closer, and are still working thru some bugs, but hope to release this as part of a Public Preview pack in early 2021! (Windows 10 released with the December 2020 pack this week)
You can learn more about the new Microsoft Teams Public Preview program here: https://aka.ms/TeamsPublicPreview, and Teams administrators can find documentation to manage which users will see the Public Preview option here: https://aka.ms/TeamsPublicPreviewAdmin
The problem is Microsoft has most businesses by the balls, so there is no incentive for these clowns to prioritize this feature over their pet project features which provide little value. It's sad but it's what everyone on this list is stuck with. It's the most voted request under notifications and yet after 4.5 years it sits on the roadmap and gets bumped month to month.
That's 4,5 years are exactly the reason why I will never switch back to microsoft products on my personal environment.

Mac users use MS Teams! And Chat = native notifications! I can't vote on this enough.
Wow - 5.5k votes and 4.5 years - That's insane!
I sure hope the 'fix' is not in the version 1.3.00.33671 (this is what I got when enabling the developer preview). The window taking the focus is still present in that version.
The fact that Microsoft had time to implement their own hacky notification system, but didn't have time to implement the 10 lines of Objective-C / Swift required to send a notification to the control centre speaks volumes about how Microsoft approaches their client side software development. I am continuously amazed at how such a large company manages to consistently miss the mark on features that have been industry standards for nearly a decade.
Honouring Do Not Disturb settings is baked into the Mac OS Foundation SDK for this exact reason! Why did you guys ever think implementing your own Notification system would be a good idea? Does Microsoft have some sort of phobia against standard/core libraries and SDKs?
That being said, I'm glad that this terrible mistake is finally being rectified, but I urge Microsoft to step up their game and read the documentation/hire people with actual experience for the platforms they are using, or they will find themselves being left in the dust once again by competitors who actually have their **** together.

I hope that early 2021 doesn't mean "end of March". Why did features like "meeting in starship control center" have higher priority than proper integration of notification in the users work environment?
Yes, please please please integrate Teams notifications into the native MacOS structure. The way Teams operates now with their notifications is that it kills the whole standard Mac navigation scheme with multiple desktops and keyboard shortcuts. While this may seem trite, it is a big issue from a workflow perspective and causes a lot of frustration and animosity towards Microsoft.

Please tell me that call notifications and meeting start notifications will also transition to native Mac notifications before y'all mark this as complete. Don't stop half way.
Not having that feature, that should have been done the right way since the beginning, makes me think what some people say, that Microsoft did it purposely to make macOS appear bad to Mac users of Microsoft Teams, is not totally unfounded...
Please be quick, and accurate.

Hope to have it in a part of a public preview by early 2021, like it was hoped to be released in Q2 2019... Progress is progress, but come on this is getting ridiculous.
Do not receive audible or vibration notifications on new iPhone 12 mini. This is a business phone and need this feature to work!

Glad to see some progress was made on enabling native notifications.
Can't wait till we see them on Mac OS.
I miss most of my Teams notifications because they pop up and disappear so quickly. (not to mention I can't see a summary on my lock screen either)

Great to hear there is testing going on for this feature improvement!! - I would add that if you guys could please make sure that we can move the location of the notifications for MAC OS (computer specifically, not mobile devices). One critical item to note is that when a MAC user receives an Audio or Video call the notification for the call appears in the righthand corner of the screen BELOW the MAC notifications. So there is not a way to answer the call or even see who it is from. The only work around is to put my MAC notifications on DO NOT disturb or use my phone or tablet to answer the call. This not ideal, when I turn off my MAC notifications I may miss Facetime Calls, iMessages, calendar alerts, reminders, and email notifications. Also it will turn my apple watch, iphone, and iPad on do not disturb as well. Thus I miss normal phone calls as they vibrate. A work around would be either better integration into MAC OS notifications. This would allow a user to put on do not disturb and fix the issue with calls appearing below the notifications. Another fix could include allowing the user to choose and/or move the location of the notifications (similar to the way outlook notifications and alerts work on the MAC). Possibly creating a smaller window that would be a "notification center" were people on teams a user is following would show when they were available, allow a user to answer calls, and change their status (e.g. click a moon and other icons quickly to go to do not disturb, away from desk, etc. ...i.e. change their status). Like with outlook, the user could simply minimize or X out the notifications window and they would not get notified. Possibly a "Pop-up" warning asking if they want to put on do not disturb, silence, or minimize (i.e. they just want to minimize the notifications until another one comes, or they want to change their teams status to do not disturb, or they just want to silence the notifications but still want people to be able to contact them).
Anyway that is my 10 cents.
Working on it,

I'm amazed this is even allowed by Mac OS's platform. Completely ridiculous, frustrating and improductive.

Making millions of people use a service that has never made it out of the MVP state, costing hours of productivity, and many missed messages due to very inconsistent and unreliable delivery of notifications should be considered a crime against humanity.
OMFG! I thought it will be impossible to get a vaccine against Covid-19 before the release is near, but thanks god microsoft has beaten my dreams and this simple feature needs more time to get released than a medicine for a pandemic. Congratulations!
I guess all is clear, this feature was not allowed to be released on macOS before Windows 10!
Hope to have it in early 2021, like it was hoped to be public by Q2 2019?
