Thank you for your feedback! We are excited to announce that an expanded set of emojis are included in our May 2021 Public Preview pack and will be available to users who opt into Public Preview. This update includes over 800 new emojis, along with skintone options, different genders for applicable emojis and new emojis featuring people with disabilities.
Please see feature details here: Now in public preview: https://techcommunity.microsoft.com/t5/microsoft-teams-public-preview/now-in-public-preview-expanded-emoji-picker/m-p/2282145
You can learn more about the new Microsoft Teams Public Preview program here: https://aka.ms/TeamsPublicPreview, and Teams administrators can find documentation to manage which users will see the Public Preview option here: https://aka.ms/TeamsPublicPreviewAdmin
The notation with parenthesis is unintuitive, it would be interesting to know why wouldn't you use the same notation as everyone else.
Probably because you don't want to fix the skype emoji notation, that replaces ":)" with the emoji as soon as you type it, and not on send. I think it is a shame. You should copy slack's/whatsapp's/signal's/telegram's implementation of this.
Performance is getting worse with every update and we can't receive notifications from two accounts at the same time, but we got more emojis ... yippie ...
You do this but not update Teams for Linux -_-
It would be really useful to add an 'OK' or 'read' emoji to the standard post/comment reactions, OR add something to posts like a read receipt to let you know who's seen it - so you don't have to chase people. You often don't need a reply, but need to know who's seen your message. Without this it's difficult to move people away from email in situations when Teams would be more efficient.

Can we have someone from Microsoft other than Alex on this task (or perhaps just someone to assist her, if she is overburdened)?
It seems there is a bet going on by whoever manages this task from Microsoft, on how few times the person can respond to the community on a task over 5 years! We need somone that manages the community on a site called "uservoice", but perhaps that is just me... Also, I doubt if anyone from Microsoft has even read the request and comments - we are all asking for CUSTOM emojis and the ability and the ability to react to posts with them!
...Just as a certain competitor allows and has allowed for years.
This request is _not_ in public preview!
Pasting animated GIF's are still a must.

As others have said, increasing the emoji library is great, but being unable to use these as reactions to messages is a major lack of function compared to "a well known competitor". Being able to add custom emojis on top of this would then be great (but for me is lower priority than allowing all emojis to be used as reactions).
Please add a basic OK emoji!!! It is not the same as the thumbs up emoji (which means good, great). Okay is super frequently needed to mean noted, acknowledged, gottit. It is readily available in both WhatsApp and Hangouts (see attached screenshots).

We cannot even use teams for UP AND DOWNVOTING!!!!!!!!! You can only thumbs-up posts, not thumbs-down them!!!
Teams is close to unusable for us right now, when compared to Slack, since we used it for so much (e.g. voting on messages) :(
Give us custom emojis, and allow us to react with custom emojis to messages. There are actually useful reasons for this.
And, with all due respect for Alex (really!), I think it is time someone new came and in just co-managed this. No hard feelings, but with 15k+ upvotes. some communication would help to keep us users aligned, rather than 3-4 messages over 5 years......... :( This is one of the main reasons frustrations build up with this.
So frustrated and sad we changed during corona, where we need more than ever to communicate, operate the company and be social digitally :(

as long as they are not political, socially, or racially motivated emotions.
If this cannot show simple, small custom screenshots in jpg or gif format without having to click on and open the image, it will be a huge step down from Slack. We use that feature all the time.

ok! you use a lightbulb icon to signify the objects category, yet there's NO LIGHTBULB ICON to use??!
"Any customer can have a car painted any colour that he wants, so long as it is black." Add emoji CUSTOMIZATION gifs, png, apng!
"An affirmation button/good question/i saw this but I can't help" button
Too often the "going to lunch(*gets 20 likes)" comments shroud over the intellectual discussions some may post like odd(cough*pineapple) toppings on a pizza.
Where business etiquette lacks, accountability must thrive. Affirmation could finally be given to those who must sit by while their inquiry goes unposed. To those that then witness the boss's comments have immediate attention and must feel that an ignored comment is personal.
Essentially, let's all agree with Robert Kalnins(below)

Very important missing functionality in the default reacts - "Seen but don't know"
Needed to validate numbers of users that have considered a question but don't know the answer.
pleeeeaaaaaaase let us add gifs
So many opportunities are currently lost !
Please don't consider this issue as done unless there is no option to add costum GIFs
Seems like teams just made things worse with the May 2021 update by getting rid of the colon : based emoji's? That had a much larger variety and was similar to other apps discord/slack/github/ ..etc
Good Day, C'mon Microsoft - can we have some more updeat emojis, please, and particular we would like ones for software engineering - e.g. 'merged'. 'approved', 'pull request' etc. Can we have the ability to upload our own emojis?
When will Teams team up and be very much 2021 and offer CUSTOM Emojis like everybody else? I don´t need more emojis, I need the companys emojiis!
