How can we make Microsoft Teams better?

data retention

on the settings there needs to be something for enterprise data retention. e.g. after 60 or 90 days data is purged off, or conversations roll off.

Currently the longest time frame for deletion of Teams chats is 30 days. Can we bring it down to 1 day for private chats? Roadmap?

Is there any progress on this? Is there an expected target date at all?

We should be able to set retention on chat so we can delete data after a period of time.

Actually it would be the best option to set a default content type for the default document library from the files-tab and define/maintain the content type via the content the hub.

This is needed for GDPR compliance. We must be able to delete older converations to avoid having too much personal information stored in conversations etc.

Let it be what ever we want. Maybe we need 57 days. So I don’t want just 30,60 or 90.

It would be great to set a retention for either/or channel / team (o365 group) and all allocated data/chats/files/etc at once.

in many oraganisations retention starts e.g. after project end - and not related to a single file creation time stamp.

We definitely need an ability to set retention policy of 1 year, or less on the "Chat" feature. The more flexibility the admins have around the retention of the "chat" or even "conversation" tab, the better it would be.

I'd like to see the retention on Chat retain the entire chat conversation (without limits) until its dormant for a set period of time (retention setting), then delete the entire chat conversation. That set period could be 90 days.

What is the status of this? We cannot roll out until retention periods are available for the data stored in teams, chat in particular. How/Why is this taking so long?

Agreed. This goes towards corporate compliance and liability issues. How can this be implemented for everything EXCEPT teams?

  • EddK commented  ·   ·  Flag as inappropriate

I agree, this is very important to us also.
Please prioritize this, it's holding up our adoption of O365.

This is important with financial corporations that need 3 years minimum to hold info
Many other things like slack allow you to hold it indefinitely or a set time very easily

Do we have an update on this? You say working on this, but what is the timeline?

The lack of retention periods is a hard stop for our Legal team approving Team for use. We need a retention setting that we can control at the tenant level. Please provide a variable setting and not a drop down of predefined values.
