Multi-window for chats and more
I want to have separate top-level windows for each person I'm chatting with, rather than tabs.
Multi-window chat is in testing. I hope to have great news regarding rollout to the public rings soon.
We are working to ensure that multi-window and other future multi-window experiences are of the highest quality when they release.

best way is to turn the app in a true uwp

It should be possible to tear-off every channel or tab into a separate window.

Ideally every channel (team, conversation, chat, etc.) should be able to be popped out into its own window, so we can have as many things open as we want.
As a model, look at tab handling in modern web browsers.
Also, the settings for each of these should be individually configurable (but start with global user-editable default values).
Others have mentioned wanting a pop-out functionality for conversation. While I like this idea, I also want to champion a pop-out functionality for chat. This would make it much easier to argue that Teams can replace existing chat platforms, as presently you cannot be both chatting and working on a conversation, etc., within Teams.
This is super frustrating if you use Teams of screen-sharing. We're a tech company with remote folks which I believe is becoming quite common. We'll sometimes be in meetings with screen shares for several hours per day. it is SUPER frustrating that I have to chose between a tiny thumbnail for the screen share and chatting with someone.
We got so frustrated that we configured Teams as a RemoteApp on our RDP server such that people could have multiple windows open.
I'm mostly bummed that this has been a top UX/Design issue for over a year now with little progress :(
Multiple windows or browser-style tabs (not the existing tab links, but actual live tabs that are active and resume instantly on clicking) are a must. I am now forced to use both the application and multiple browser windows to achieve what should be basic included function.

if the window cant be smaller for a dedicated chat then we need to buy an extra screen for everyone who will use this as a chat client during work hours
It would be awesome, to have a seperate chat-window, so you can, check documents and team-communications, while you're chatting!
At the moment it's really annoying, chatting and than click to an teams channel to check out commincations or files you shared before!
Great solution to perfom multiple tasks at a time with Teams
I especially miss using chat in a seperate window! I keep jumping back and forth between chat nd assignments when commenting on students work. Every time I have to open assignments from the start, find right assignment and then back to the student's work... I loose a lot on time on this. For now I use both online and app at the same time as a work around, but it would be REALLY great to get this feature into planning ;)

MS really messed up on this one... Multiple windows is necessary for usability

You should be able to right anything (Chat, Team, Video, etc) and undock it so that it is it's own window. Then when completed I can close it which will return it to the Teams Application or "Dock" it again.

I've been using Teams in our office for a while now. It works great! but what I find very annoying is that when your are working in a team with a document or some other "tab" and some one starts chatting to you, I will need to leave the tab I was working on to go to the personal chat or team chat.
It woud be a great feature to have a "multiple" window option. so I can open a chat window on one side of the screen, have a team chat op en on the other side. And on my 2nd window a team/file or planning screen.
It is basically a must to allow the option to show conversations in separate windows for a) managing multiple conversations, b) privacy of conversations and c) desktop space savings. The main window is much too large on the desktop particularly when no chats are in progress. The ability to make the width narrower or have a minimized view would be helpful. (Don't forget about Mac users).
Multiple tabs / windows to view different Teams / channels in teams at same time or quickly without needing to leave one for the other .
Aka the ability to work on two channels at the same time or at least navigate between two channels, even channels from different teams easily, without having to go through all the navigation? Would make working more efficient and should be easy to set a sort of active.
Also better ways to group categories out with Favourites might also help, if could do it with Channels and Teams, not just Team level.
Even if there was a light, chat only minimal client I think a lot of users would like this. If nothing else it could be the gateway drug into the full power of the tool

We have a team that has website tabs for our ticketing system and various reports and other dashboards. It is really hard to use this as an all encompassing digital workspace when I have to get out of the team tab website to chat with anyone. If we could open chat in new tab or have the ability to split screen with chat and teams that would be AMAZING! LOVE TEAMS and am excited to watch it grow and continually improve.
This really isn't good enough - Teams is unusable without this feature for people who actually need to chat.
Yes please. Came on here to request something similar. Need to be able to private chat whilst editing documents.
