Multi-window for chats and more
I want to have separate top-level windows for each person I'm chatting with, rather than tabs.
Multi-window chat is in testing. I hope to have great news regarding rollout to the public rings soon.
We are working to ensure that multi-window and other future multi-window experiences are of the highest quality when they release.

@alex Any chance of an update on this?
This one is HUGE for our organization. Everyone complains about not being able to open/separate chat from other fields. It's very frustrating and slow to move between calls, chat, etc.

Like many commenters here, we're about to end use of Skype for business here at our organization as we move to Teams, and while I like many features of Teams, multi-window chat is a much-used and very important capability we are about to lose. I'd appreciate an update on the status of this initiative.
@suphatra, any update? Can you tap into the Microsoft Skype team to see how they did it and bring this nice feature to teams?
Is there any update on the "multi-window" functionality? It seems inefficient to have just ONE window for everything including the chat function.
Any update? It has been 6 months since the last "working on it" update.
please allow undocking of the video like we can in Skype for Business
We've been using Skype for a few years, but have now moved over on Friday to Teams full-time.
Having the chat window built into the main Teams window is a pain (to say the least !).
As everyone else has requested, please build a 'pop-out' for the chat functionality.

Any update on this? Sadly my company is shutting off skype access soon as it has been replaced with Teams.. Chat is a stand-alone necessity. I could take or most of the features in teams for my use, but not having a separate chat window, and having to click back and forth in meetings is a heinous experience. I can't chat with someone privately AND view a meeting at the same time.. coolAny update on this? Sadly my company is shutting off skype access soon as it has been replaced with Teams.. I no longer require three monitors as I can only carry out one task at any one time! Productivity has gone down hill!
I would like multi windows for chats, a window for Teams integrated OneNote, Planner and Files section.
Best get around at present is to sync via SharePoint for files and use both desk top and web app concurrently which is not ideal.
Thanks in advance
Sent chat to Microsoft asking for a response. Hopefully we'll see a response!

Looking for update on this or timeline, such a basic and necessary function as this should be readily communicated to your customers.

Can you share an update or timeline for this?

Our 10K+ employee company switched to 365 starting the beginning of this year. I'm just another early adopter trying to figure out what's going on with this limitation. It's hard to drag colleagues who prefer the comfort of what they currently use to switch to something new like Teams. At this point, I'm not convinced the effort would be a success.

This needs to happen. Clicking back and forth between chats for information is getting annoying.

Suphatra, II'll add my voice to the folks on here asking if there is there an estimated release date for this enhancement?
Productivity slowing to a crawl thanks to Monoposoft.
I think Microsoft has only one person monitoring this Teams uservoice "forum" and she left the company in December of 2018

Not being able to use the chat while working on a document in Teams has a really bad impact on the workflow. Especially if you want to fully replace skype...
