Allow use of existing OneNotes/documents for channels
My team has a pre-existing OneNote. It would be really helpful to be able to create a tab that uses this, rather than being forced to start with a blank notebook.
Starting today, there’s an updated OneNote option in the Tab Gallery that allows you to create a new notebook for your tab, point to an existing notebook, or link to a particular OneNote section or page.
This update is not yet available for EDU customers, but we’ll continue to update this new OneNote experience to make it easier to bring your important content into Teams!

So will this include the use of the Class Notebooks as well, or just ordinary Notebooks?

Couldn't we get around this allowing us to edit the link in the onenote tab?

Thanks for the news, Suphatra! That's lovely to hear.
This is great news! I hope it is a two way street with the notebook. Because there is a lot of confusion in using Teams between the one section that is visible and the rest of the notebook that is building from within OneNote. They should build together.
Our OneNote tabs in Teams are suddenly gone!
I'm confused - I add existing notebooks all the time. The one that comes with the group that is created when you make a team is the default. I add a tab and choose OneNote. This creates a new section in OneNote and I can only see this section. If I add with the web url (go to Office 365 and open my notebook), I can link the entire notebook so I can navigate all over the notebook (and O365 for that matter...)

We have just started using MS-Teams now but already used OneNote for e.g. Meeting minutes. Is there an easy way to assign our pre-existing OneNote with the Teams OneNote?
The button within the Teams OneNote to “Open in Desktop” doesn’t work either and in the online version you have restricted functionality which is a pain. Copying data from an existing OneNote is a pain too since e.g. attachments are not copied at all and e.g. jpg files can’t be opened withing Teams-OneNote but just downloaded – which is not really helpful here.
Is there some workaround for that?
Help would be appreciated.
I just grab the URL for a notebook and add it as a web tab (just "share" the notebook and grab it's url). LOVE IT

Please have a way to migrate notebooks when this is done. We have created a lot of new notebooks in Teams channels, them moved all sections from older SharePoint notebooks to them using the OneNote 2016 app. A pain, but better to have them in Teams. Don't want to do it again when you create whatever the solution is.
I would like to have the possibility to attatch existing onenote books in a tab.
This is similar to the SharePoint integration thread. We need the ability to tie existing knowledge to a new team, since teams is a new value add. We don't want to recreate the wheel, we want to integrate and expand on our current efforts.
What's the ETA for this one?
6+ months in dev. Should be any day now.
I can't believe this has not been implemented from the start.
Hi! When adding a Onenote into a team I would like to be able to choose from an existing onenote. As for now the only option is to create an entirely new one.
Pleas update us on the status of the project- the response that it is being planned is half a year old. Right now we're viewing our OneNote via the Website but that means we can't access the files attached to the notes.

Completely agree, we had departments using Office 365 group functionality in the portal before the integration with Teams.
This sounds like a great addition!
We need this
