allow any emoji as a reaction, not just thumbs up

I am marking this as partially done to let you know a new reactions bar with Like, Heart, Laugh, Surprised, Sad, and Angry has begun rolling out to all users.
You can still have the most used or favourite emojis on the top of the list (maybe in separate section).
Dennis if you are confused with bomb (or other) emoji, you can still ask your colleague what they mean with that. It's the same when someone sends you message with that emoji.

Don't make the selection too small - but I'm not a fand of cluttering reactions. What does it mean if a "I finished a project" message gets "Wow, Great, Smiley, Bomb, Like, ThumbsUp, Sad Face"?
It's important that negative emotions are included as well (dislike, sad face, cry face), but besides that I like being limited to a few reactions. Everything is better than just Like.

I don't know why you need small "all work safe" reactions when you can still use any emoji as a new message.
It will only lead to broken reactions when some users will use few emojis as reaction and other as new message (because it simply wasn't there).
Why to limit users in this? We are all adults and we know what to use in which situation. When I want to use **** (or other) emoji with my close colleagues for fun then why not to? It's the same like someone wants to use swear words. Messaging apps do not censor them neither.
And also there is a lot of useful emojis which you probably won't cover with small subset.
E.g. numbers (useful for voting), animals, food, "x" and check mark etc.
I don't like FB Messenger reactions exactly because there is (always) some emotions missing when I want to use them.
Just let us use any unicode emojis and we will be happy. :)

2. A large selection of all emojis available, for example like as many as Facebook provides.

Why not make the "emoji level" as a configurable filter from the admin interface? Hand control over to the customer.
In this case, I feel that the default setting should be 1 - a minimal work safe selection.
The admin can expand that to medium, or all, as desired.
If that's not possible, I would vote for 3 - a medium selection.

Option 2 of course, we are all professionals and we are able to determine which emoji is appropriate (as many as Jonathan Wyza mentioned).
Ideally a favorites/most used imoji's is present, just like Slack and WhatsApp do.
Definitely as many as possible - ideally having plenty, but with tabs (i.e. having the most popular ones on the main tab, then sports ones on next tab, animal ones on another etc.). Totally agree with Jonathon below me - they should be in an identical list to ones that are available in messaging

If the emoji is in the list of emoji's that can be used in a message, then that emoji should be usable as a reaction. Simple, straightforward, as you already have that list.

You should add the new set of emoji that's out with windows 10/windows 10 mobile. They look better than the current set in Teams...

If you could make it so an organization/team could upload their own reactions, that would be the best. You'll never be able to have what everyone wants. But understandably that takes more work and my team would still be very happy to get a lot of out of the box (ensuring they can search for the one they want).
