Support for Private Channels
Looking for the ability to create a channel that only channel members can see. Private channels are available in slack. There is an admin for private channels who is the creator, and they are the ones who add/remove users.
Five types of public/privacy that is being asked for by users:
- Public-Open (visible anywhere including outside the org and anyone can join)
- Public-Invitation (visible anywhere including outside the org, must be invited)
- Company-Open (only visible inside the org and anyone in the org can join; outside the org must be invited)
- Company-Invitation (only visible inside the org, must be invited)
- Secret (invisible to everyone except existing members, must be invited)
Hi Everyone – thank you for your patience. As was commented by someone below, Suphatra is no longer at Microsoft, but rest assured we are working on this feature.
Hey there, as per below why is there no roadmap for something being worked on ?
@Alex/Microsoft. it's been months since an update. Anything?

This is a big issue for many customers. Any update or roadmap for this?
what's the roadmap id of this feature?

We really need this feature before we can fully adopt Teams. Permissions is a HUGE issue...
Stupid me! I thought this was a basic feature... Well, never expect to see this feature requested for 2 year without been resolve.
"Secure Private Channels – coming later this year – allow you to limit which team members can see the associated conversation and content within that channel. You can right-size channel participation and exposure without having to create discrete teams to limit visibility. This is one of our top requested features and we’re excited to be actively testing this internally and with select customers."
It seems "Customised Backgrounds" is a feature more in line with MS strategy these days...
Coming later this year. WHYMicrosoft didn't update this post?
As Daniel CD mentioned below, Microsoft just announced that this feature is coming later this year. Couldn't they address us here in UserVoice first prior to broadcasting a vague timeline to the masses? WTH?
Microsoft: Just say you can't do it, close this suggestion and move on.
This is a great suggestion to help work with external Microsoft Teams members when working with multiple organizations. Thank you

Announced today, secured private channels are really coming (later this year for whatever this means) https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoft-365/blog/2019/03/19/microsoft-teams-experiences-intelligent-workplace/
I am working on multiple projects for my organization. I created few channels under my management group team so that they can access to project updates in single platform. However, I need to grant access for different team members to access different Channels. Currently the access can only be granted at Group level which is a limitation. Please help to enhance this asap..

We started using Teams at work and I'm currently on a project where I have to present whether Teams or Slack is a better tool to be used. I have to admit that Teams is losing by a margin because of this and I'd really liked for my office tools to stay connected to it and also have the possibility to use Atlassian tools as well... Do we possibly have any kind of udate on this?
Perhaps the real truth is that this is just a very poorly designed application and can't be modified to provide what I would have thought would be an entirely obvious requirement from the start?
The fact that Microsoft apparently thought that their first offering of private teams instead of access control over channels would meet the requirement indicates that they have never actually understood the structural requirement in the first place, so have no interest in pursuing this, or even if they are, have very likely gone off on a complete tangent and will eventually come back with something that completely misses the boat anyway.
I've been asked to investigate and suggest a restructure of our Teams environment because its just become an unholy mess, which I suspect is exactly everyone else's problem too.
Considering that this feature is exactly what I was hunting for, only to discover Microsoft have been bumbling along for over two years without coming close to resolving this indicates to me that in our case we should be ditching Teams as a platform and looking at alternatives instead.
Bueller? Bueller? Bueller? This comes up almost every day. I could do what I need if only I could use private channels. Is this turning into a Vaporware feature? We were told it should be released early in 2018. That came and went and we've gotten no update since they other that "we're working on it". Can you please give us some information so what have some hope it will come out at some point? I've had to create dozens of teams simply because I can't subdivide the teams I already have. This is making our Teams environment a huge mess. Give us something. Anything.
What's better than Microsoft Team chat/team pane?
SoundCloud comments. It's sleek, simple and fast.
God they did it better than Microsoft. I wish I have that on Ms. Teams.
> 18,000 votes and no real action as far as we can see. Where is this getting stuck and why? I think Microsoft has some form of obligation to inform the customers.
