How can we make Microsoft Teams better?

Support for Private Channels

Looking for the ability to create a channel that only channel members can see. Private channels are available in slack. There is an admin for private channels who is the creator, and they are the ones who add/remove users.

Five types of public/privacy that is being asked for by users:

- Public-Open (visible anywhere including outside the org and anyone can join)
- Public-Invitation (visible anywhere including outside the org, must be invited)
- Company-Open (only visible inside the org and anyone in the org can join; outside the org must be invited)
- Company-Invitation (only visible inside the org, must be invited)
- Secret (invisible to everyone except existing members, must be invited)

They just rolled out an update yesterday that broke Teams chat for everyone in our organization (about 300 people). Private Channels support? No. Now we got "like" and "love" icons to react to the messages. I couldn't find anyone asking for this feature here on UserVoice. In my workplace, no one needed it. In fact, what we needed was a reaction to acknowledge that we've read that message (for which we simply used the like button). I can only assume that this UserVoice has no weight on what is being promoted from their backlog. It's virtually impossible that such a simple feature like this one is so hard to develop and ship - hey, developer here! - I know how these things are. It's probably something to do with the horrors of SharePoint (WHY would anyone build something based on SharePoint on this day and age is beyond me) or some dumb limitation of Electron (argh, I will refrain myself of saying anything about building this kind of applications in JavaScript). Maybe Suphatra just jumped from a sinking ship...

The absence of private channels has killed Teams adoption in our company. Pity.

I recently attended a MS Teams immersion session where Private Channels were demonstrated. I've been told MS is testing internally and they are coming soon. Not soon enough! :)

From the announcement in March linked below...
"Later this year" which could be in 9 months (when posted) which is about as useful as saying it'll launch soon™
Pretty much all we're looking for here is communication!

We absolutely need this feature to use Teams effectively. Our group builds content and we would prefer to push it out in channels, but each of those channels is targeted to specific user groups, where in many cases the information in each channel has varying levels of confidential data making specific user groups per channel necessary. Otherwise we have to build a Team for each content package. Thanks.

This would be a very welcome feature in our org, as we have multiple divisions with multiple projects.
