  1. Quicker way to find contact and start conversation

Starting new conversation with colleague via teams (4-6 seconds, 7+ steps):
    1. Mouse click on pinned MS Teams on taskbar
    2. Wait for 1-2 seconds for MS Teams window to open
    3. Mouse click on "Search"
    4. Enter contact name
    5. Mouse click or down+enter to open chat
    6. Mouse click/focus message field
    7.Type + enter, message sent

Compared to Skype for business (1-3 seconds, 4 steps):
    1. Double click on taskbar Skype icon - window opens instantly
    2. Start typing contact name ("Search" is focused automatically)
    3. Press enter (first match chat window is opened, message field is focused) …

  2. Improve UI for threaded conversations

I think that the threaded conversation view has a fundamental UI problem.

At present, the text control at the bottom of the view will start a new conversation, and replying to an existing conversation requires a specific action.

We have been trained by pretty much every other chat program in the world that the box at the bottom of the screen is for typing a reply to the current conversation. To change this behavior requires Teams users to un-learn a common behavior and re-learn it just for this program.

Users spend most of their time using other programs. Conforming to…

  3. Add the option to disable message previews in the Favorites and Recent IM windows.

In the Chat tab, my boss complains that he can't open Teams while in screen sharing applications (such as WebEx) because if he does then the last thing said to each of his contacts is visible and may compromise confidential info. He'd like the option to turn off the preview and only show the names of the people without any message preview.

  5. Show Teams with external users in a different colour scheme

It would be good to have Teams with external users (guests) show up in a different colour scheme so that users are aware about internal/external groups at a glance. It will also help if there is a feature akin to Outlook Mail Tips which will indicate that content being shared in such Teams is visible to external users.

  6. Show me the number of channel followers

In Slack I can see the members of a channel, but I also know at a glance how many people are in the channel. With Teams I can see the team members but it is hard to get a quantity. Also, I don't know how to see who is following a given channel in the team. If I have a dead channel I want to know so I can remove it.

  7. Ability to order the channels within a team...

Unless I just can't find it:) The channels order by creation. Would love to be able to reorder them by dragging them.

  8. Stacking Chat Notifications

This might be more windows UX but it would be nice if the notifications stacked for chats. I am part of an active group chat and I don't want to disable notifications completely but it is also distracting when there are notifications all up the side of my computer!

  9. Manual Away Settings and Status Text Box

The R/G/Y status indicator doesn't work. It seems to drive itself which is pointless. We need to be able to manually set it like Skype.

Of greater importance is the status TEXT. We MUST have this to show if we are traveling and when in the next 2 days, and when we have PTO. If we're heads down and don't want contact but will accept contact if needed, we need to set to Green and have that text in there. We're a 100% remote team and must rely on Teams for this.

PS - We're planning on sunsetting Slack for…

  10. Disable screen capture

Prohibit attendees from taking print screens / screen grabs of what is being presented in Microsoft Teams (similar to how you can't take a screen shot of a rights protected email - the screen goes black).

  11. Chat messages must show up in Activity > feed

I typically have the "Activity" tab open so I can quickly glance at the barrage of messages exchanged throughout the workday, and peruse the ones that I want in detail by clicking on a message in the Feed. However, chats do not show up in this feed, requiring me to go over to the "Chat" tab instead. It would be nice for all messages to show up in Activity/Feed.

  12. icon for channels

Ability to add icons for channels. Currently only we are allowed to add icons for Teams. Would be great if we have the ability to customize the channels as well. It would make more sense if the channels keep growing and it would be really easy to identify the channels.

  14. Make it like Slack. Don’t buy Slack though.

Teams is mostly pretty lame. Slack is way better. Just make it like Slack. But don’t buy Slack, y’all would probably ruin or kill it like you did the Sunrise calendar app 💔.

  15. Include Drafts in 'My Activity'

Currently there's no way to track reply/post/chat drafts.
The 'My Activity' feed seems a natural place to put this.

  16. Open a thread, replying... too confusing.

    current typing design in team(group) chat has two function;

    1.open thread
    2. reply to a tread

currently it is too confusing if someone is to start a chat.
    So my team members make mistake in this way very frequently;

    Open a thread, enter
Then open another thread, enter(even if they wanted to reply to the thread that they have just opened)

Eventually, rather than having one thread and one reply to add comment, we have two separated thread..

This happens a lot... I mean, almost everybody is confusing where they are typing.

So, how about move typing focus to reply…

  17. Allows user to customize the color schema

In the dark theme, some text still not readable after your efforts. Please consider to let us to setup my own color scheme (such as color of plain text, color of link, color of shadow).

  18. Color code team/group chat windows so we can easily differentiate

It's very difficult to tell if I'm replying to someone as part of a particular conversation in a group chat or directly to them in a private one. My teammates have the same issue, and it's led to us inadvertantly typing messages in the group chat that we didn't want some team members to see. One possible way to remedy this would be to use different background colors for group chats compared to private ones

  19. Channel, with user group > Sub-channels, sub-user group

As a user, I want to select a set of people from the primary channel and provide only them access rights into the sub-channel.

    Context
I have Company X and I create a channel X. Under this company I could have Divisions e.g. Management, Finance, Engineering, Marketing, Sales, etc.

Those divisions are categorized as sub-channels. Sub-channels
are the divisions of the same company. For instance, when the sub-channel is defined as Sales, there could be 31/500 Account Managers from the full user group defined in the primary channel (Company X). Because specific topics and knowledge can sometimes be dedicated to…

  20. Display keyboard shortcuts in hover states

I love using keyboard shortcuts to speed up my work. Please consider adding keyboard shortcuts to hover states to help learn what the keyboard shortcuts are.
